Not so famous egyptian dancers of the Golden Era

    Hi, everyone!
Besides Samia Gamal, Tahia Carioca and a few other very famous egyptian dancers, there are others who have also appeared in several movies, but aren't as famous as the ones we remember all the time...

Ok, I start with Nabaweya Moustafa:

    [ame= ]YouTube - Nebawiya Moustafa, A Dancer in Egyptian Film ر‚ص شر‚Š - †بˆŠة …صطف‰[/ame]

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urbxB81X1Eg&feature=related]YouTube - Belly dance by Nabaweya Moustafa in film "talaak Soad Hanem"[/ame]

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxoJTyClv6U&feature=related"]YouTube- belly dance by Nabaweya Moustafa[/ame]

More dancers? More clips of the same?
    Thanks in advance for participating!

Has anyone ordered any of the DVD's from Sausan Academy? Are they worth the investment? Is the quality pretty good (considering the age of the films)? I have to say I am impressed with the variety of videos highlighting each dancer.

I have, I was very impressed with the quality, especially considering the age of some of these films, and that some of them haven't been restored. at first I thought, 'what only thirty or so minutes long?' but that's thirty minutes of just dance clips from movies, none of the other fluff, so your actually getting a lot of dances, with a lot of variety.

Back on thread, I really like Hoda Shams Al Din, and I can't really even say why, she wasn't the best dancer, but she just draws me in for some reason.

Oh what a great clip of Hoda! I've never seen that one before, but I have seen her dance in that costume before, and another one just as nekkid I think she borrowed it from Taheya Karioca. ..l;,

Thanks for posting that clip, it's now in my favorites!

I have them too and I use them much more than my old Hossam Ramzy Stars of Egypt series. Which cost an absolute fortune btw... Sausan's are much more reasonable. Or were last time I bought them. Sausan has done research into the background of the dancers and added bio information at the beginning of each dvd. She also has added notes into the dvd indicating the names of the actors/dancers/singers on screen.

I love her too (Zainat Awli, I mean)! I remember the first time I saw the film the second clip is from, I kept watching her dance scene over and over, she looked so wonderful on a full tv screen!

Their hipwork is really amazing. Do dancers still dance like that in Egypt?

Here's a clip from the 1947 film Fatma starring Oum Kulthum. The dancer is Saneya Shawki. This also shows that dancers did dance to Oum Kulthum's songs. The song is called Nourek Ya Set el Khol.

And here is a clip from the film Hasan we Na3ema. The dancer is doing a Fellahi style dance. The woman in the window is Soad Hosni.

And some more Zeinat Olwi, in the second scene. Liz and Lyn Gamal are the dancers in the first scene:

Re: Not so famous egyptian dancers of the Golden Era

This is a really strange post because many of these dancers are famous amongst Arabs, just not with Americans. Katie and Na3met Mokhtar both are still well-known today because they acted as well as danced in numerous movies. However, there is very little information in English on them which is why people assume they were not as famous as, Samia Jamal or Tahia Carioca...

    FYI.

You mean the thread or the title? I didn't say they weren't famous in Egypt. They're not so well known to the rest of the world.
Hossam Ramzy is the one who calls "The Great Unknown" to Katie, Nabaweyya Mostafa, Zeinat Olwi, Houda Shamseddin, Suzie Khairy, Sohair Magdi, Qatqouta, Sohair Zaki, Nagwa Fouad, Liz & Lyn, Neamat Mokhtar, Amal Ibrahim, Fifi Salamah and Houreyya Mohammed, saying that these were "great dancers who made it to the cinema screen, but did not all achieve the same fame as Naima Akef, Samya Gamal or Taheyya Karioka":

Suheir Zaki and Nagwa Fouad great unknowns? That's news to me.

I agree, while many of these dancers may be known in the Arab world because people watched them in films, they are unknown elsewhere. I'm not familar with many of them myself.
