At the risk of putting words in Emma's mouth, I believe she is implying that this thread has a strangely disingenuous or perhaps staged flavor to it.

It seems a bit odd that not just one but four people, seemingly from different corners of the world, have joined bhuz and their first/only postings are all about Yana and how wonderful she is.

The distasteful thing to me is that it seems to have been staged to appear as though all 4 fans just sort of randomly wandered in here. Or perhaps even sock-puppeted. Its a public board so whatever; it just doesn't set the tone for an honest discussion of this dancer.

In other words...I wonder what's on the swap page {loses interest, wanders off}

Janette, you're the only Bhuzzer raving on this thread who's ever posted on any other topic. That makes a fan post about your teacher much easier to take. As far as I'm concerned, I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

It's the people who only joined us to sell something that insult us. No interest in anything we have to say? No interest in discussing dance in general? We're not peers, colleagues, or potential friends? Just potential customers?

Joining a message board just to sell something and not participating in the discussions is like running into a cocktail party, ignoring everyone else's conversations, and just starting up a sales pitch in the middle of the room.

(or, in Gestia's case, like running from group to group inserting a sales pitch into each conversation).

Well, I'm YANA's fan, I don't deny it. I'm her student who lives and studies in Canada at the moment (Laval University). So, yes, you can really find YANA's students and in "different corners of the world" (as ssipes said)! That's wonderful, I think.

And yes, I'm "just starting" on the forum because I prefer reading posts to posting myself, when I have nothing new or original to say. But now when I saw that in the Fan's thread my favourite dancer is not even mentioned, though she is popular, and not only in her country, I decided it was high time to start writing on the forum. Just to tell people about a beautiful dancer.

Then I told my friends about this forum. They had some more photos, so they joined the discussion. Why not?

It seems rather strange to me that in the Fan forum it isn't considered normal to discuss your favorite dancer together. Even if it is a new name for the others!

I'm really disappointed. It appears that the new members are not welcome on BHUZ... This forum seemed more friendly in the beginning. But well, I'll take your hospitality into account. I considered making a thread about another dancer as well, but I understand you don't really need it. Just go on discussing the dancers you know well and don't let us introduce to you someone else.

But I find such politics really unusual on the site that claims to be the Biggest Online BellyDance Community.

Well, since YANA's Oriental Ensemble is my favorite dance group, I have the information about their performances. Then, naturally I would like to share it with other YANA's fans! That is why I write about it.

Hi Almeya, this isn't politics on a belly dance site, like Lauren says, it's internet etiquette. It is also called sockpuppeting - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sockpuppet_(Internet)

On some discussion boards, sock puppeting is grounds for instant permanent banning and very severe mockery and cruel remarks. If you are bothered by Lauren's very kind and helpful comments, then internet discussion boards may not be for you.

If you are not sock puppets, I hope you and Janette stick around as I would value your insight on threads in general. If you are sock puppets, you are probably doing Yana more harm than good.

Listen, I think the other posters are saying that all of you posted as if it was spontaneous AND AS IF YOU HAD NO CONNECTION TO EACHOTHER.

If any one of you had stated right away that you were her students, and then acknowledged that you knew eachother, there'd be no problem.

And why wouldn't you state this? Because it creates the illusion that random people all over the globe who don't know eachother are Yana's fans, instead of being straightforward and saying, "Hey I've seen her dance and love her. Hi Gestia, buddy! Nice to see you posting about her too! Haven't seen you forever!"

That's a big difference. It is deceptive and misleading.
