When I first saw her, Aziza (Portland/Montreal), she blew me away. She was so beautiful, so poised, so skilled and fun at the same time.
But then she became too perfect for me, too polished, too planned, too slick and I lost interest, I admit it. I would never talk bad about her, never disparage her amazing talent, but I wasn't seeking Aziza out for inspiration anymore...until today when I watched this video somebody posted on facebook and she brought me right back again.
Aziza, you are inspiring me again. I don't know if it is me that is changing, that is totally possible, but I know that you continually are evolving as a dancer and performer and I'm loving what you are doing. Thank you for being you.

Re: I used to be a big Aziza fan....
Aziza was the first pro belly dancer I saw. I took a workshop from her when I was brand new to belly dance, and she just completely did me in. And the subsequent workshops I took from her were just as inspirational.
I think her very best clips are filmed in front of a live audience. She has a spark that I don't see in her clips as much when it's her and a camera guy in a studio.

What really appeals to me about Aziza is her playfulness -- she seems to really be enjoying herself in this clip, and she communicates it to her audience: "C'mon along with me, we're gonna make some trouble with this song!"

She still amazes with her innovative use of veil. It's like an extension of her person.

Aziza is such an amazing dancer, and I love her DVD's, but I know exactly what you mean when you say she's "too polished". That's exactly the reason she's not really a main inspiration for me in the same way that she is for so many other bhuzzers, but I still appreciate her talent and pedagogy, and really hope I have the opportunity to take a workshop with her soon.
BTW, this video also blew me away.

Re: I used to be a big Aziza fan....
I totally adore her. Her teaching is utterly inspirational (she completely changed my life as a dancer) and her dancing has everything IMO. Her professionalism is total yet she's funny and sexy too. But really nothing beats seeing her dance live. She has enormous charisma which you don't always see in a video.
Personally I'm loving the new grown up elegance I've been seeing in her dancing in the last year or two. I think it is unbelievably beautiful and shows what an important dancer she is. She shows us all how bellydance is just as fabulous and just as valid even if you're not young and cute.

I also loved her willingness to embrace the often unloved chainette fringe. I do believe that costume was made by a Korean costumer who does ballroom costumes.

Wow... just beautiful! I love to watch Aziza. I've got to make plans to take a workshop with her soon. I've been admiring her DVD's and pieces posted to Youtube. She inspires me.
And I have to disagree, I don't think she's too polished. I hope I'm able to be half that polished at any show/performance I do. That is hard, hard work to make it look natural... or better yet un-naturally natural!

1st track, Salome's Seven Veils.
On eMusic: Magic Dance Vol.1 : The 7 Veils Dance mp3s, Magic Dance Vol.1 : The 7 Veils Dance music downloads, Magic Dance Vol.1 : The 7 Veils Dance songs from eMusic.com Nesma isn't listed as the artist but it's listed on her site NESMA Music. ETA: On eMusic, there are five albums listed with Nesma Music as the label, the two you probably already have and the three listed currently on her site. (Yay! LOVE her music.)

The fact that it's in the fan forum should tip her off. She can safely open it and and be reminded of how much she's admired, respected, and downright adored. :)
