Horacio and Beata Cifuentes in Milwaukee 2010

I attended Shaia's sponsering of Horacio and Beata weekend!!!! Wow! Shaia really did a great job! Thank you,Shaia! I hope she brings everyone back!

I was one of four gals from Texas that drove thursday(in shifts),arrived Friday(had time for a short nap) to see H & B's show. They NEVER disappoint! H & B were very gracious and very patient. Very professional. I always learn something new.

Also, Horacio and Beata had their friends, Tribe Perlatentia traveling with them and performed at Friday's show. These girls did a wonderful job! ATS with a little twists and turns I usually don't see with tribal. I didn't attend their workshop(I'm a classical girl), but I really liked what I saw....you go girls! We made new friends this weekend, as well.

Horacio has a book out,"Confessions of a Male Belly Dancer". I am surprised that he shared some really private things about his life...very humbling and vulnerable. Guess what? He's human! There are feelings and situations that most of us can relate too.

Thanks to Shaia,Horacio and Beata, and Tribe Perlatenia. A lot of learning and good times were shared by all.....

Did you encounter bad weather that Sunday heading home? I saw on the weather channel that there was rain in Texas that Sunday morning.

    I'm PMing you :-)

And DITTO, DITTO, DITTO on the workshop! Plus, Mimi was a blast, wasn't she? I had my dog with me as well that weekend, but I didn't want to rock the boat by introducing my gigilo dog to Mimi.

He was a rescue from a puppy mill and only used for his "skills" which I think he failed at miserably and that was why he was surrendered to the rescue shelter.

Oh....more information please...I've been lurking around the board eager to hear how the weekend went. What workshops did they do? What styles did they include in their concert? etc etc etc....enquiring minds need to know!

Beata did "Bad Girl Beladi" on Saturday (which I was unable to attend), and Horacio did Raks Sharki on Sunday (which I attended with 3 of my students). Both were choreography workshops, but at least in the one I attended there was a lot of emphasis on technique as well. I really enjoyed the Raks Sharki choreo, and found it challenging but not frustratingly so. Beata (who did the warmup for Horacio's workshop) and Horacio were warm, funny and excellent instructors. I would workshop with them again in an instant.

The show was great as well! There was about 50% Oriental/ME Dance, including a beautiful Persian number by Horacio and a stunning performance to Lessa Faker by Beata. They are touring with Perlatentia, a Tribal troupe from Germany, who did both Tribal Fusion and ATS/ITS numbers. I'm no Tribal expert, but I thought they were excellent. Then there were some mega fusion-y pieces - a modern dance inspired piece, what I think was a circus inspired performance by Beata with ribbon twirling and Mimi jumping through a hoop a few times (which was really cute), and Beata & Horacio also did a couple of fairly straightforward hip-hop performances. The circus and hip-hop pieces were not really my cup of tea, but overall I thought it was a fantastic production.

    Azeeza,

We ran into a little drizzle, but nothing major. I heard we missed some weather in you area! Whew! I hope everything is o.k. there.
Mimi was too cute! Very well behaved. I didn't receive your pm. I noticed the upgrade when I got home....but I'll be looking for it!

    bul_bul_ksa,
Lara 2 pretty much summed it up! If you ever get the opportunity to study with them,DO IT!

    Lara 2,
Well...... I didn't perform at the hafla.... that was Angela and Miss Red. They are the group,"Just Fabulous"! I and Maribell just took the workshops and were support. I will convey your compliments! They'll love it.

I would love to put faces with names.....please tell me who you are! I was a dancer with dark hair, wore a red Snoopy shirt on SAT, orange on Sun. Friday,at the show I wore the plum formal.

I was a vendor that weekend. Selling Calico Garden Rhinestone and feather accessories. Shaia, you did an amazing job. Congratulations on a wonderful weekend. I hope that you are rested from the event. I know that it can take a lot of out you. I had a great time. The workshops were fabulous, I took all 4. Intense and amazing!
I'm glad to hear that the TZ girls made it back safely. I am sorry I did not get to meet you. But kuddos on taking the journey!

Was it the 2008 Mid-East Meets the Midwest show with Azzia? I did a Meleya in that one, and it's the only more widely circulated video I can think that I might be on.

I'll have to check. My "play" room is a disaster right now, so it might take a while, but you are probably right, it is that particular tape. Isn't it funny that I don't remember anyone else on the tape, but you? It means I was wholly impressed by your dancing ..g.:.

    Oooh, oooh, remember these quotes:

"Are you dizzy? Oh, I feel so bad for you."

    And

    "Chose your victim."

Those were quotes when we were spinning and doing chest lifts! What a great sense of humor! That is what makes dancing fun and Beata and Horacio great!

I'll try! I LOVE that step! It goes so well with the bang of the cymbal! How ingenious!

I bought the CD at the workshop, so I've been listening to it over and over and over. It's a great CD and I really like the song.

    Will be in touch,

On the Enchanted Garden dvd, Horacio's Accordion (Akkordeon) that we learned is performed. Also he had an instructional dvd on that.

On the Talisman dvd, (Sunday's class) is performed. It's called Mahbobty.

Hope that helps. When I found out it was all on dvd, I didn't take notes anymore...

..l;,..l;,..l;, I hated being one of "the chosen". It's too much pressure! I didn't feel like I was keeping up.... And I WAS saying "CRAP"!!!..l;,

My mind was pretty much mush by Sunday....Saturday night!!!! I was glad to be in the audience, enjoying the performers.

Do you know which instructional DVD the Sunday workshop is on? I can't seem to find it. I sent you a PM asking if it was the Baladi DVD and it isn't. I'll look for the Talisman DVD as well.
