Isn't this funny? I find Hayatem to be a much stronger dancer and performer than say, Samia Gamal, who has always come across as awkward and lacking in grace to me. Jalilah helped me see why many love her, but she will never be a favourite of mine and I'm not very interested in watching her dance. Yet, here is this unknown dancer from the same era with better showmanship, stronger technique, equally as cute and more interesting to watch. Why did she not become as well known? Maybe what they say is true: in show business, it's all about who you're sleeping with. (I hope I didn't offend anyone. I'm referring to her relationship with Astrach.)

Samia Gamal has never been a favorite of mine either. I find her dancing kind of bland. I much prefer Souhair Zaki. This Hayatem is lovely to watch - her expressions really add to her dancing.

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who thinks Samia is overrated. I think she's got spazzy arms and I always have preferred Tahia. I wonder why Hayatem never got wide recognition. Does anyone know anything about her life? All I know is she made some movies in the 70's.

There's not a lot of information on her. She was born in 1950 in Alexandria, and elcinema.com reports her birth name was Soheir Hassan. She started in movies in the early 1970's and eventually transitioned into straight acting. It looks like she was inactive for a while in the mid 1990's (not sure why). She was married at one point to fellow actor Mohammed Khairy, now divorced. (Khairy must have had a thing for dancers. He was also married to Zizi Mustafa.) She's still working as an actress, although it looks like more on TV than in movies these days.
