I wasn't sure about her until I saw that she "specializes in everything related to belly dance." That's what sold me.

My cat looked at the website briefly, flicked her tail and slinked away to pronounce that without any doubt she is more awesome that this Couscous kitten ;-)

Seriously, though - great job! And, no matter what my silly cat thinks of herself, Couscous has the moves and the video shows that she has an impressive, professional attitude.

I demand proof that this uppity little pussy has paid her dues! It's impossible for her to know what she's doing. She clearly didn't consult the community before establishing her rates, she's trying to book gigs directly with no respect for the local pecking order, and most importantly she hasn't studied with ME!

Apparently Couscous has won many belly dance competitions so that should be adequate validation :P

I believe there is a different explanation, and it's quite the story: Suzana's cat is jealous of Couscous. She waited until Suzana left the room, got a hold of the keyboard and posted under the good name of her owner! Do we need to report a feline impostor to Rosey?

    Who, me? I mean, her?

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?p...&id=1007510247

    Or her?

I wouldn't put it past the little hussies. They've both got reclining shots up on the Internet. And they're *clearly* not wearing any underwear.

But...but...she has danced to many CDs of internationally known and Grammy-nominated musicians. Doesn't that make her worth nothing and therefore worth hiring?
I love Couscous! Is she related to Toonces the Driving Cat?

Toonces used to do dance primarily, but found a life in television more rewarding. Toonces still does dance however. Both she and Couscous have subbed for me at many shows with and without my knowledge. I'm honored that they drop my name in order to secure restaurant gigs, as they've been doing it for some time meow... I mean now.

I use all of Couscous's authentic, original moves in my classes & I copy her choreographies exactly and present them as my own. She's the first, most original, only ever for real belly dancer in the universe.
Weren't the ancient egyptian cat gods the first belly dancers? That's why they're on all the hieroglyphics, right?

I heard that Couscous is the only authentic teacher in the whole world. Maybe we should all make a pilgrimage to her, instead of asking her to come to us with workshops?

ooh...a 4 paw crawl to meowca?

indeed - it was cats on the walls of the tombs doing the original dances, which is why she can be the only authentic teacher - she is from there, she is born with it and it is in her blood.

Who needs lessons when it's in your blood? Her great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandmother danced for the Pharaoh, so obviously she's a natural!

Well, I danced with couscous briefly, but in a few short weeks she realized she was a much better dancer and thus began her illustrious solo career. (she does have a reputation to think of). I am honored she still mentions my name now and again.

Couscous does believe her work is a gift of art and should be free for the world to enjoy, but she does accept donations and trade. She actually prefers scratching posts, milk and tequila straight up to mice - she recently went vegetarian but still enjoys dairy. Someone as busy as she hardly has time to update her website.

That's cute :-) The thing that made me even come read this thread was the "dancer's" name though. A good friend who is Palestinian told me once that "couscous" is slang for some particularly girly bits of anatomy. <g>

Reviving this zombie thread, just for fun!

There's actually an old Heckle & Jeckle cartoon in which they visit a Pharaonic tomb. A dancing cat in harem pants emerges from a niche and performs.

There's a group of cats drumming for her, and their drumming looks a lot like that of the video clip on Couscous' site!
