She is utterly amazing, an icon, a role model, and a classic example of old school bellydance. I just love her dancing! She is also an incredibly wonderful human being - generous, warm, giving, honest - what you see is what you get, no two faces about our Sophia!

You know what, maybe this is a good time to invite people to the Mission Green Light dance showcase, "Let's Beat Cancer by Dancing," focused especially on breast cancer which is such a scourge.

If you can get to Chicago this is Saturday October 22, 2011 at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts Theatre, 1016 N. Dearborn St 60610, doors open at 6:15 for the 7:00 PM show.

Lots of beautiful dancers will be there, Mariah Parrason is coming from Ohio, with Elianae, and fellow Chicago dancers and friends Sonya, Lisha, Mahira, Serafina, Mae the Bellydancer, Zoh'ra, and Troupe Ro-He - plus there will be Bollywood and African dance.

It's gonna rock so hopefully we will see some of you guys there!

Kudos to Sonya of Arabesque for all her hard work organizing this!

Sophia is such a warm,amazing and caring person too.Her dancing and costuming leaves one breathless and transforms you to the Golden Age of Belly Dance.She and my girl Cory Zamora are elegant,beautiful dancers and let their dancing speak for itself.

Sophia since the day I've met her has been a source of great inspiration. Her knowledge on the history of belly dance is boundless without losing the understanding of the spirit of the dance. She has always taught myself and others to consume the strength of the music from the guts on out and not the other way around. I had looked for 8 years for a teacher/performer like Sophia because what you are seeing is rare... It is the dance without modernization, fusion, a spin or gimmick... You are seeing what it is, traditional, bare, spiritual and beautiful... It is a gift to see her danceand I feel so fortunate to have her in my life.

Did you know she makes 95% of her costumes? You really need to see these things... They're really incredible and belong in a museum.
