Now, I am still new here and I searched for a Orit thread and found nothing, so I decided to share it with you all. I love her dancing. It is filled with emotions and pure love of dancing. She lives in Isreal and puts on a nice festival every year. I thought as much as some of you travel to learn you many be interested in hers. She had one in 2007 already so it's time for her to gear up again for next year.
As for her costumes she has the talented Asi Haskel(sp?) design them.
Here is her link to her video gallery. My favorite is her Fakaruni video. LOVE IT!!

I was wondering who designed Orit's fabulous costumes. According to that clip, It's a guy, Asi Haskal. Very interesting to see his work on youtube, because his website is in Hebrew and I can't understand it. I wonder how one can order costumes from him?
He's also got some interesting Fifi Abdo and Najwa Fouad clips on his YouTube page.
Edited to Add: How very odd, I could have sworn that I saw the link to Asi Haskal´s youtube costumes clip on this thread. I guess I imagined it. Anyway, here it is:

I absolutely love love love Orit! I'm just crazy about her style, and always watch her video clips whenever I'm looking for inspiration for my own pieces.
My poor troupe (although they love her too) is constantly hearing me talk about her. I've even started an Orit Maftsir thread on our tribe!

I've heard that Orit is a Jew of Middle Eastern origin. Does anyone know where she is from exactly?
05-30-2007 07:03 PM #10She's Israeli, I don't know her ethnicity.
Here's a link to her website:

She performed here in Sweden and was a big success.
Her training with Diana Tarkhan (as well as loving Dina and Randa) is evident in her style.
I think it´s very inspirational to read that she started bellydancing when she was 26!

Yes she did,and there must have been some Raqia too?
Those Spanish turns...lovely.
Christina, have you seen other dancers use that "sticking your leg straight out"step that Orit uses a lot?

Emma-bessa,
I've seen Randa use the kick leg up move several times.

Raqia does that a LOT. But she tends to lift the leg higher than 90 degrees (as I have seen Orit do), and with her arms straight up, as an arabesque.
I love Orit too! She`s so playful, she always makes me smile ..g.:

Orit did study with Randa and she does consider Randa to be one of her inspirations. Randa uses a lot of steps that incorporate sticking her foot out a lot and kicking her foot up in the air. I would imagine that Orit gets that from Randa since its some of Randa's signature steps. I use a lot of steps in which I kick my foot out a lot and stick my foot up in the air and I would say it comes from watching all the performances of Randa as well as studying with her. In Dina's opening number she does have a step in which she gives the audience one side of her hip, kicks her leg up and while its up, does pelvic tilts to the back in place. Then she does half a grapevine and gives the audience the other hip and repeats. But I would say that normally Dina doesn't do much kicking. I think of all the Egyptian dancers I have seen, Randa incorporates the kicks the most. Orit does too, if you watch your videos you will see that as well.

I think Orit is a good dancer and you can definitely see the Dina/Randa influences. But I have to say I truly wish Randa would stop that sticking her leg straight out move when dancing to Oum Khoulsoum music. That music is all about internal feelings and when she sticks her leg straight out it just doesn't go. I saw another dancer perform her choreo to Alf Layla and there was a lot of leg kicking. In my opinion it was just plain awful.

Apparently, Orit just returned from Warsaw, Poland where she performed a show with three costume changes, all made for Asi Haskel. They are up on her photo gallery, www.bellydancer.co.il
