"Mon Amie la Rose" rhythm pattern?

Does anyone know what rhythm pattern is used in the Natacha Atlas version of "Mon Amie La Rose?" It sounds like 1,2 (pause) 3,4 (pause)5,1,2 (pause) 3,4 (pause)5,repeat. A similar pattern is in "Yearning" from BDSS volume 5. And does anyone know other songs with this pattern? Any help would be appreciated - I'm not sure where to even start looking!

    Thanks TONS,

I don't have it to hand to listen, but from memory I always thought it was a variation on saidi.

I just listened..I agree, Saidi when the rythm is on top of the melody. It goes a bit jazzy here and there when the bass guitar takes over from the drum and it drops below the melody line.

    I thought it was 1, 123, 1, 123, 123. or (if you're right handed) r, rlr, r, rlr, rlr.
    or couldn't you do 123, 1, 123, 12345 ? I know some just do triplets.

It is definitely Saidi, however the melody is so strong in places that it is not always evident.

Eh, two-thirds of all Arabic pop is saidi, you're not going to cane to it *all*. The rhythm is only part of it, there's the rest of the music to consider. It's a very veil-friendly piece, I can see why someone would want to do veil to it.

Big difference (I think) between a sa`iidi piece of music and music that uses sa`iidi rhythm ..g.: - after all, all that pop music isn't really sa`iidi is it?

I agree with this. It isn't the Saiidi rhythm that makes me want to grab a cane so much as the mizmar.

Yes, the mizmar is the main distinguisher (sp?) in saidi rhythm that you'd want to do Raks Assaya to, I agree.

BTW, I love that song "Yearning"! Is that the one you all have evaluated is a saidi rhythm too? Curious.
