One-on-One Classes, What`s the Most You Pay
Obviously, this is spin-off from a thread about workshops.
I paid 150 US$, kind of going rate, I suppose.

For an hour, I can't afford more than $30/class.

About $50 to $60 for one hour seems the norm in Toronto...and for the master instructors in the area, it's about $70 to $90 per hour.

The most I've paid is $90 per hour.

The going rate in our city is $50 for a private lesson. Since we're a small city (80,000) with a low cost of living, I doubt anyone could get a higher amount.

I go to the UK for my private lessons with master teachers, I pay $70 -$100 per hour. Seems to be pretty much the same as the US then.

Re: One-on-One Classes, What`s the Most You Pay
I pay $55 per hour for private lessons in Chicago with Sabah. Because the drive, round trip, takes about 3/4 tank of gas, I think that's about the upper limit of what I can afford. She's totally worth it, though. :-)
If it were a big name, who traveled from outside my area, I would go up to $75 - $100, because it would be a one time thing. It would have to be someone I really wanted to learn from, though, not just any famous dancer.

Wow. $50 seems really inexpensive to me. In the ballroom world, I charged $125/45 minutes. Yes, it's a bit extreme. I don't charge as much now that I'm not having to cover the overhead of a studio.

most of the time there IS no overhead, sometimes pay more if they have to travel, but that's fair...................the privates are either my home, their home, or a host's home.................well worth it and would pay more..........

shira and i are in the same boat, town wise...but if we went over $20.00 a private hour, we would price ourselves out of a job.

Re: One-on-One Classes, What`s the Most You Pay
Going rate in Portland, OR is $50 per hour, which is what I charge. I have paid up to $75 per hour multiple times for two-hour lessons with Souhail Kaspar and would not hesitate to do it again because I get so much out of it.
I agree that $50 is not really so much for what we provide to our students and our levels of knowledge and expertise, but that is about what the market will bear.

Re: One-on-One Classes, What`s the Most You Pay
Of the teachers I'm AWARE OF in the Boston area, the range seems to be $25-50/hr for a private lesson, with most at $30 or $40. That may not be representative of the whole community, though: just the 7 or 8 I can recall.
For comparison, group classes seem to be $12-20/hr drop-in, often with discounts if you pre-pay for the session.

Re: One-on-One Classes, What`s the Most You Pay
The most that I've paid is 40 euro per hour + studio rent. So that would be 60 usd + studiorent. It's on the high end, the going rate is between 20-30 euro per hour.
