Any good intermediate DVDs out there?
I have quite a collection of beginner DVDs and in all reality they put me to sleep. I already have a strong grasp on the basic moves and many more advanced moves. I really need to help on combos and arms especially. I can't affor dto spend a ton so cost is a factor too. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Any good intermediate DVDs out there?
For oriental/am-cab, I really liked the following. Not only do they have an excellent content but are available at a great price.
*Jenna's The Next Level (excellent for turns)
*Heartbeat of Bellydance: Drum Solos
*Pop, Lock and Shimmy
*Mastering the Dance by Amar Gamal (I have heard good things about this one but have not seen it)
*Belly dance Vol 1 and 2 By Saida and Mario Kirlis. Each volume is a 2-dvd set. Mario Kirlis explains rhythms in detail and Saida demonstrates two or more combinations for each. In the second dvd, Saida teaches a choreography. Volume one teaches a fast-pased veil dance to Tamil and vol.2 teaches a beledi progression to Mario Kirlis' "Little Beledi". Each volume is about $20-25 on ebay.
For Tribal/Tribal Fusion
*Arabian Spices by Sahira
* Gypsy Caravan vol 3-6 (I have not seen vol. 7 or 8). These are about $25 per volume
*Tribal Fusion with Sharon Kihara
*Contemporary Bellydance with Ariellah (I sort of regret selling this one. :( I'll have to buy another copy because I miss doing her arms drills)Last edited by WildAnmar96; 04-18-2008 at 10:24 PM.

Re: Any good intermediate DVDs out there?
Keti Sharif's A-Z Bellydance has good intermediate-level combinations suitable for either American or Egyptian style. Her Jewel of Arabia video is a good intermediate choreography for Egyptian style. Both are reviewed on my web site at Belly Dancing: Shira's Reviews of Instructional Videos, Alphabetical List .
Suzanna Del Vecchio's Precision Motion Workout is a nice study in dance technique, and has a 30-minute practice/drill session that can double as a workout if you add your own warmup and cooldown. That too is reviewed at the above link.
Hope this helps!

Tamra Henna's "Arabic rhythms" DVD was very helpful to me. She breaks down eight or so rhythms, then shows two combos for each.
I'd also "second" the vote for Jenna's "Bellydance: the next level." In addition to turns, there are upper and lower body layers drills that are a good challenge.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. Watching a few of them on Ebay now. Are there any good ones that target arms especially. They are by far my weakest point?

Ok I have Jenna's The Next Level and Heartbeat of Bellydance on the way. All I can afford right now but hope to get a few of the others later. Thanks for the suggestions.

Aziza's Practice Companion has some good arm drills, and is a great drill video overall.

Re: Any good intermediate DVDs out there?
I use Aziza's practice companion once a week and it really helps me to sort out my posture and coordination and improve my egyptian shimmy. I'm practicing with michelle's pop lock and shimmy dvd this week and I like it too, even though I don't like drum solo's.
Haven't tried jenna's next level dvd, I'm putting that one on my 'dvd's wanted' list. If you're looking for combinations, the new york dance company has several dvd's that offer drills and combinations that are very affordable. I'm a big fan of jillina's choreography skills, because her combo's are very creative.
