Just moved to Redmond,WA and would like to find all the teachers on the eastside?
Can anyone point me to some teachers in the redmond/bellevue/kirkland/woodinville area that foucs on egyptian cabaret. Hopefully an accomplished teacher that has a tendency to expose students to other teachers as well.
Or someone in seattle that is really easy to get to? Just had an experience this weekend driving into seattle for a flamenco class and even with a gps it was time consuming.
Thanks!

Sorry I can't be of help. I use to live on the East side, in Woodinville, and I could never find an Egyptian dance Teacher. They all either taught American or Fusion. Good luck!
I can only think of Rishi in Lynnwood (North Seattle).

i saw Rishi's students perform at Emerald Rain and they were REALLY GOOD! Is Nadira near to where you live? She's a great teacher as well.

Hi Patty,
I live in Sammamish and have been studying with Dahlia at VDP studios in Fremont as she is classical Egyptian style. If you are intermed/advanced, her class is wed. at 7:45 so the traffic is not quite as bad, well, it's not the best either I have to admit, but Dahlia is so worth it! Her beg. starts at 6:00 I think.
Also, Nalini teaches in Bell. and Zulaika teaches thur nights at Bally's right off the I-90 exit 156th street near BCC. I think Aleili (sorry if I misspelled her name) teaches in the eastside as well. There could be more instructors but these are the ones I am familiar with over here. If you are near me, we could car pool to VDP should you choose Dahlia :0)
Email me privately if you need any help.
Julia

Saqra is a bit south of where you will be, but is very good, vivacious, funny and fun as well as being a great dancer and skilled teacher. I'm not sure if she's on Bhuz, but may know someone in that area.

thank you so much, ladies!
julia,
i will take a look at dahlia's schedule. my limiting factor is hubby's schedule which means that saturday or sundays are the best days for class so that i can leave the kids with him. i am at intermediate level but i never have any issues taking classes with a new teacher from scratch, especially if the beginning class is all that is offered on saturday.

Hi Patty,
Here is VDP's schedule for this month;
Visionary Dance Productions Belly Dance Calendar
On the visionarydance.com web site you can look up Dahlia. Delilah is another great teacher and the owner of Visionary Dance Studio.
There are no weekend classes but check next month. The solstice parade classes are coming up next so Dahlia will be teaching Ghawazee.
Well, I am not sure who has weekend classes so I can't help you there. I have kids too so that is why the later evening works for me.
Good luck, I'm sure you will find someone. We are blessed with lots of fantastic teachers!

Welcome to town, Patty!
for egyptian styling, Dahlia is your best bet, IMO. Nalini is my second choice. she's had formal training since childhood in kathak dance, and she's a russian champion ME dancer. that being said, I would try out a class or two from everybody you can, and then make your choice from there. Aleili is a wonderful woman, Nabila is a great instructor and I'm pretty sure she's still teaching on the east side. Zulaika is new in town - she was with Cassandra's school for a long time and she'd definitely be worth checking out. over on the seattle side, delilah is worth studying with, as is of course tamallyn dallal, noor, nadira. if you can go the private lesson route, that opens up your timing possibilities, and you could study with the amazing alimah, sabura, or gosh, even me. lol!
there are about 8 million bellydance teachers in the greater seattle area, and as you might imagine the quality and ability levels vary pretty widely. I'd be happy to chat with you offline about it if you have any questions about any particular teachers. elisagamal@gmail.com

like Elisa said, definitely check out as many instructors as you can to find the best fit for you. Each has our own something we bring to the table. Also feel free to email anyone you are considering taking from. Most of us are available for privates as well as group classes so you have several options.

Re: Just moved to Redmond,WA and would like to find all the teachers on the eastside?
I live in Issaquah area and i have taken 2 workshops from Aleili and i know she teaches in Bellevue. (Aleili) That's what got me hooked on belly dancing. I also remember finding an instructor at the Kirkland Bally's fitness club. (can't remember her name) as i was perusing the yellow pages. I too need to stay on th eastside with kids at home (time constraints) and gas being so $$$ Hope that helps.
