Thread: Help me with my photos!

I am so bummed that in 99 out of 100 performance photos I see of of myself, I consistently have my eyes closed. This is driving me nuts! ..cr.:

And no - I don't dance with my eyes closed.

I think that there's some kind of rule that says that 99% of your performance pics you have your eyes closed. The other 1 % you look goofy, dorky, in the wrong direction or fat.

The solution so far: practice on facial expressions that also look good when your eyes are closed. Bring someone to take a lot ofpictures of your performance: there will probably be more with open eyes in a batch of 50 pictures then in the three pictures that you usually get.

I thought the rule was that at least 4-5 pictures had to be of you mid-bellyroll, causing you to question how good you REALLY look in that bedlah. Is that just me? I always get the weirdest torso shots.

Seriously, when I get photos back, out of 50, I'm lucky if 1-2 are usable.

Ah, the mid-bellyroll pics! Yup, I have several of those and I fiercly hunt them down to make sure that nobody puts them online. I always wonder wether I look three or four months pregnant, and if it looks like it's a twin.

Are these all photos with flash? I have a couple of dance friends whose eyes want to automatically close with a flash, mostly when they are looking directly at the camera.

Okay, so I feel better hearing that others share the same struggle. I have a new batch of photos from Saturday night coming in a download tomorrow - I'll be keeping my fingers crossed (and toes).

Kiyaana - this round won't be flash, so maybe I'll have better luck. One can only hope.

Getting good performance photos are tough! My photographer is coming out sometime to get some live action shots...I think his camera will make a huge difference. I only have 2 "live" photos that I would consider showing to the world, and even those aren't all that great

Tell your photographer to just take loads & loads & loads of photos (if you have a digital camera you can fill the memory card for free!). Plan on throwing out 99 out of every 100.

It IS sometimes possible to trasfer your open eyes from another photo using photoshop. Not easy, and the two photos have to have very similar lighting, angles, etc.... but it CAN be done.

yes, he definitely will - the memory will hold hundreds and he shoots like mad. He has opened my eyes on some photos, and I've seen the tutorials but haven't tried it myself.

It looks like my photographer did take hundreds and hundreds of photos since the download is 1.5 GB! Now, I can't get my DSL to stop timing out while I try to make the 4 hour download.

Oh well.

Whenever I shot performers at haflas, I don't use a flash and most of the time the photos come out nice..

LOL...that made me laugh. You have to make sure you get the right eye pasted over the right eye and the left over the left or you may have issues...heh heh

I think Lauren has some good advice. Ask your photographer to just take a MILLION pics, and by chance alone, you WILL get at least a few decent ones.

My father is a professional photographer (Dan Stone, Stonehouseimages.com), and at my shows, he seriously takes about 300 pictures during a 15 minute set. Out of those, we usually get about 3 or 4 cool ones. (My Avatar is an example of one of those).

It is my opinion that almost always, the dancer looks much more beautiful dancing in the moment than the photos. So what if your eyes are closed? Like the ladies said, it could be because you're "filled with emotion" at that second of your dance! I bet in almost every picture Dina's eyes are closed!;-)

It happens. Mine just look like I'm admiring my cleavage. (See gallery for example).

Perhaps look up more by keeping your chin raised AND have whoever is shooting you take mega pictures, as recommended above.
