    Bellyrolls on an empty stomach?

I can do killer, otherworldly bellyrolls. When I'm very, very full.

When I don't have much on my stomach, on the other hand, my abdominal work, be it in the form of bellyrolls, undulations, or other internalized abdominal movement, is barely visible. I normally eat a light meal and drink lots of water right before I perform so that I have something to work with, but I can't stuff myself or I wouldn't be able to drag myself around the dance floor.

Do other people have this problem? How can I improve my abdominal work without feasting before every performance? The muscle control is there -- I just seem to need something to push around!

Wow! If I waited maybe an hour after eating before doing any abdominal work, whether it's performance or drills, then I'd only get really nauseated. If I eat until my stomach's full, well, it just wouldn't be very attractive at all!

Yeah, I feel like crap doing belly rolls after eating. I've never compared my rolls before and after eating, so I can't say either way.

No, I'm the opposite Ainsley. If I started doing belly rolls after eating a nice meal and than went and massaged my abdominal muscles, I'd have to run straight for the nearest restroom. I have a fast digestive system anyway.

I'm the same way as Ainsley! I don't have good distention in my rolls if I don't have at least a little something in my stomach, but I can't eat a full meal or else I'll get side aches when I dance.

try eating a few maltesers, it will give you energy and something to roll over.

Wow. I can't eat a full meal and do a lot of bellyrolls without getting sick. I wish I could though, I'm kind of jealous! :)

Have you tried practicing them while lying on the floor? When I do bellyrolls in practice I try them in positions that are more difficult for me (like lying on the floor), just to build muscle and challenge myself.

For me it was always more gastronomically challenging to do what we called "stomach punches" as opposed to a belly roll.

One year my troupemates and I were performing at a Middle Eastern multi-cultural event put on by the university, and we thought the fact that we got a lunch break from a buffet was a great idea...

...Until we had to get back up on stage for our second act! *Doh!* Of course the first routine up was the one that was riddled with stomach punches All of us let out a groan at the same time while still wearing a big cabaret smile! That was definitely a lesson to learn from.
