Thread: hip wraps for the goddess sized?

I have a few "bigger" girls in my new class and I was wondering if anyone knows a website or what have you that sells hip wraps for plus sized girls? I hate anyone to feel left out cuz they can't find proper costuming or what have you. It's really important to me - as a too-big-to-bellydance size 12 (according to the world and even other bellydancers) myself - to make sure the ladies even bigger than me can build confidence in my class and NOT feel like they can't do it or don't fit in for ANY reason.

I have crocheted noiseless sparkly hip wraps that fit goddesses sized dancers. I also often times carry XL-XXL coin hipscarves occasionally in my inventory. Are you looking for coins or no coins?

Oh, bless your heart. I'm one of the "bigger" girls and would have loved for a teacher to show so much consideration when I was starting out!

A few to get you started:

In velvet and fringe, L. Rose Designs will make any size in any color. Love their stuff. Nice volume discounts, good service.

Nilaja here on Bhuz carries scarves for curvy hips, and she's a sweetie!

La Reina Goddesswear carries scarves (and cute flare pants) for bigger hips, and sometime Bhuzzer Lorraine, La Reina, is great to deal with.

SharifWear carries a range of sizes in their costuming, and their crocheted hip wraps with sequins or paillettes fit everyone.

Dahlal doesn't list big scarves separately on the website, but they've been very helpful about finding the ones in their inventory that are more generously cut. You can shoot them an e-mail with general hip measurements and they'll get back to you with some options. Their new line of practice/class/clubbing wear has tops and bottoms in all sizes as well.

King of the Nile has a large variety of hipscarves. They measure and size them and carry a wide range. Right now they seem to have quite a few in "XL" (for 44-45" hips) on offer on their website but nothing beyond that. They could likely come up with larger ones if asked.
All the hipscarves in their web catalog are 40% off at present.

The SW scarves fit everyone for the most part, and I've gotten some longer coin scarves from Joharah that have had plenty of room for goddess dancers.

It touches my heart that you are so worried about her feeling incluced.

I get my hips scarves from Bellydance costumes, jewelry, music and I only offer the sequin open fishnet kind. I got tired of sweeping up beads and coins....

Please bear with us as we get the site finished -- We're in the process of getting actual pics of the merchandise on a warm body onto the catalog pages, but being a gal who has always had junk in her trunk this is an issue very close to my heart. When I was a gymnast in my early years and was a late bloomer, my team-mates would tease me by saying that my mom must have made me have surgery to put my boobs on my butt and that was why I would never look like them. Girls are mean!

I've noticed a banner ad on here for "Shimmy Sista," which says it has plus/diva sizes....don't know if anyone's used them

Ive checked out that ad. They sell sharif wear in L, XL, and XXl sizes.

Thanks for the props ladies! Of course, as soon as we got everything up, I had to fire my designer (long story) and now I'm not so in love with it anymore. But I just found a really great gal who I think is going to make a big difference. I had a photo shoot last week and will get the finished pics tomorrow......Then I think we can start advertising for real!

Thanks Magidah and everyone for the additional feedback. It's such an issue close to my heart, that all bellydancers should be treated equally by teachers regardless of size. And I love the size names, too!
