What to do when you've lost a zill?

Here's a question: So I have a set of Grecian silvers, and I lost a zill out of the set (fell out of my bag, waaaah!)

What do I do with the remaining three?

You could go the Jim Boz route. His design (made by Saroyan) has three brass cymbals and one silver one, for a distinctive 'dum." Find a 4th cymbal that makes an interesting sound with the other 3.

I have seriously considered starting a site for lost zills...where people with an incomplete set can find a single, and vice versa. I was inspired by the One Lost Glove and One Cold Hand projects.

Sorry to thread hijack, I was playing with this idea a lot yesterday. You may have give me a sign to do it. Will keep you posted. :)

You could use one set for the right hand and a different set for the left. I must be tone def because I didn't hear the "distinct dum" of the cymbal config of J.B.'s. I can hear it more when I play with two different sets though.

ita w/ adding a variant zill into the mix. can sound really good if you pick one with a complimentary tonality

I sold the three. Some people like the mix and matching, but I'm still progressing on getting to sound gorgeous with a matched set. I used that money to buy a new set

I had that happen once! A box I was shipping a box home after a summer in Ireland developed a hole, and the only thing that was lost was one of my zils. I posted a "wanted" ad on the bellydanceny.com site, and the lovely Stella Grey (who runs the board) sent me one for free! She wouldn't even take money for shipping. Wasn't that sweet?

..l;, I was talking with some other dancers today about this very thing. We were coming up with all sorts of funny names and slogans for a site where people would donate their finger cymbals and the site would help each one find a new home. Adopt-a-zill.com, zillharmony.com, zillrescue.com - just to name a few.

I think you're ignoring all the possibilities for zill art and costume decorations.

A friend and I were recently talking about building a dance costume using all the our mismatched rhinestone earings (because we've lost just one...) and broken necklaces/bracelets from over the years. Hmmm--why not incorporate a couple of zills too? ..g.:..l;,..l;,..l;,

...Sorry...you ask a serious question and here I go getting all silly. You can thump me over the head next week in Dallas....

You can use them as props for belly dance photos. Poor missing zill. I imagine him in a train station with a little sign that says, "Please look after this zill."

You only need two of them to recreate those cool photos of Princess Banu.

Zillharmony! You can match zills based on their 29 compatability factors.

Re: What to do when you've lost a zill?

You can pair 2 of them up with 2 of another set to create a unique sound. I know dancers who have done this to create variation in sound. Some have 1 set one hand 1 set the other or one from each set on each hand. Mix and match and play around until you find a combination you like. That's a bummer tho. Love my Grecians...my silver set have lost their tone though from getting clinked around in bags and I lost a full set of brass Grecians. Bleh!
