Is there a name for these moves on youtube?
Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well!!!
Is there a name for the move this dancer is doing at 1:23 , walking backwards (ronde de jambe?), with arms at chest level.
[ame="http://youtube.com/watch?v=HmvviZHOypA"]YouTube - Haifa gothic belly dance[/ame]
Also what is the arm move called that Sashi does at 1:19-1:23
[ame="http://youtube.com/watch?v=gGgmdXQbv8w&feature=related"]YouTube - Gothla - Sashi[/ame]
Thank you for your time (watching and answering).

Hm. I don't know. But I guess that's no surprise, since I know nothing about Goth dance!

Re: Is there a name for these moves on youtube?
I don't know about the first - I would just say something like "pulling her hand in from the front at shoulder level" which isn't quite a formal name.
In the second, to me they just look like wrist undulations. The stylization is very tribal to me, because of the angle of the wrists and the shape of her hands, but the basic movement seems to be just an undulation.
Also, I know that face mask is Sashi's thing, but I just cant see it and not think of Sub Zero from Mortal Kombat...

for the second video it's the Tribal Basic egyptian. The first video - more tribal moves but the back step looks like something I remember in a Rachel Brice workshop many years ago. Basically looks like a bunch of camels and reverse mayas with some torso circles.

The first one I'd call The Ariellah, since I think it's like her signature move. Don't know about the second.

Re: Is there a name for these moves on youtube?
The first move resembles a step called "back walk figure 8" from Jamila Salimpour's original repertoire, only done really slowly. It looks nice.
Couldn't watch the 2nd vid, just not my thing.
But you know, our dance isn't standardized, so the names of steps can vary a lot from teacher to teacher.

Re: Is there a name for these moves on youtube?
the link on the first video was not working for me, but in the second sashi is doing (tribal) basic egyptian with her arms coming down still with the like she is about to cue into another move (if there were other dancers to cue). She has kept the stylized almost "taffy pull" hand/wrist movements that accompany basic eptian almost all the way down.

Re: Is there a name for these moves on youtube?
basically the leg move is ronde de jambe but (i'd need to look again) the hips are moving.
arm movements are bascially tribal with wrist movements. Fed up as I am with watching a lot of tedious ( and a few skilled ) "based on RB" routines I thought both clips were well danced and a good example of he style.

The first clip just has embedding disabled. Click on the title, it will open in a new window.

Re: Is there a name for these moves on youtube?
I agree with what's been posted here already. The step Sashi is doing in the tribal Egyptian Basic step. You should find this on Fat Chance and Gypsy Caravan DVDs if you're interested.
And the step the second dancer is doing does look like a stylized rond de jamb

The "stylized ronde de jambe" has a hip drop on one side followed by the ronde de jambe to the back on that side, a smooth transfer of the weight to the other side, a hip drop on that side, followed by the ronde de jambe to the back, etc. At least that's how I see it.

I would add that it is very similar to what I know as John's Step.
