Thread: sites for dance props

I am looking for suggestions on sites to order swords from. I have a student group looking to do sword. I bought mine so long ago that I have no idea how to direct my students.
Looking for nice swords (not to break the bank though). Not looking for the all one piece stamped overly prop looking ones. A sword that looks like a proper sword, making any sense?
Anyone had good dealing with a company let me know!
And taliking about props...
How about veil fans, fans, wings, silk veils, and other props? Any thoughts?

Two I would recommend:
Belly Dance Costume Swords and Dancer Sword, Scimitar Supply
these guys are out of Portland, and they are very responsive. The scimitar MD-48 is a great one for sword students--very well balanced, center balanced, not super long, very shiny and nice looking (I especially like the silver and the copper), and no loose basket guard on it like those cheapies.

Another good one: Kult Of Athena - swords, axes, maces, flails, and other medieval weapons
The "Baladi" sword is excellent looking, good balance, and not too spendy. Cons: the blade is deeply curved, which can inhibit some side-arm moves (at least, you do have to be really carefu;!), and also they are very frequently backordered.

I like to get them from Kittie Sparkle here on Bhuz, but she doesn't sell them on a site, and she hasn't been on Bhuz lately.

One of my students went to Dahlal and said they have NONE in stock and that she was told they're not coming through customs at the moment. I noticed bellydanceshoppe.com is also sold out of the kind I like, maybe for the same reason?

Dang it.

Do I email her through her site to ask about the swords? Do you happen to know how much they are?

I posted a thread last weekend paging her, and several people local to her said they'd have her get in touch with me.

I only need maybe 5 or 6, she probably has enough for both of us (or none at all) or maybe she can put us in touch with a source for larger quantities. I'll go bump the thread.

I love love love my Kult of Athena Baladi sword. There is nothing frou-frou about it - it looks SCARY!

Bipin at Jewel of India has swords. I saw them this weekend at Aziza's bash. His web site is hopeless though; just call him or his wife Diane at 772-878-7309. They are in south Florida

What about inexpensive fans with bamboo ribs? I want to make my own silk veil fans, could remove paper from lesser fans, use the bamboo ribs. Any sources??

Dang it.

I recently got an email from Dahlal's since I had asked to be kept on backorder for my sword. They have swords in stock now - but 2 different styles than they had before. The scimitar is gorgeous!
