Thread: Our showcase needs a new name!

I spoke to some of the other international style dance instructors in the area (flamenco and Irish step) this past weekend and discovered they're having the same challenges gaining acceptance as "legitimate" dance forms in our area as belly dance (minus the local PBD and the nipple tassel army... they get to skip that).

During the course of the conversation, we realized we could be much stronger together in seeking local legitimacy and acceptance than we could separately, and since at the moment, I had the most going on as far as events go, I invited them to perform and include their students at our monthly coffeehouse show and they loved the idea, so it's going to take on more of an "international" thing as we're going to contact one or two other dancers as well.

Currently it's called "Coffee at the Casbah" but I'm thinking if it's going to be open to than just Middle Eastern dance, it needs a new name and I'm drawing a blank. Suggestions?

Maybe you could use something with "world dance" or "Dance Around the World" or something? Sounds like a great idea to join forces, good luck!

Cornucopia Cafe of Celebration

Maybe something with "constellation" (though I'm beginning to think I'm stuck in the "c's" due to your original showcase name). ..l;,

Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone! I actually like a lot of them, even the cheesy ones b/c I love the cheesy names (hence a troupe named GRITS Raq... get it?).

Blending some of the ideas I'm thinking "Coffee and Culture" with the tag line "...an evening of world dance"

Sounds inclusive enough and not too frightening, right?

Nice and inclusive and friendly sounding too - meeting a friend (or friends) for a cup of coffee. Sounds like a relaxed, fun time.
