I am drawing blanks. We have our student recital soon, and I was thinking... bringing her flowers at the end of the show is just.... too... well, expected. I would like to find something special to do for her. She is such a wonderful, hard working teacher. Any ideas?

At the end of our student show, my students gave me flowers and a handmade card (one of my students makes them, they're lovely) along with a gift certificate for a massage! What a treat, I was in heaven. Just what I needed after all that stressful work.
A small gift certificate to Dahlal, bellydanceshoppe, even an itunes gift card would have made lovely gifties as well.

A little gift basket would be nice. Some gift ideas: You could put some incense in there,a new CD (a new release so she won't already have it), maybe a gift card to a restaurant she mentioned she likes, a rhinestone hair accessory or egyptian like jewelry (I'm thinking lotus flowers with stones). It doesn't have to be expensive stuff. Amazon has some nice stuff, heres a link for the jewelry

Awesome! Thank you girls!
Would it be appropriate to do this?
I was thinking we could sit her on stage at the end of the show and give her a decorated basket, empty, and each of her student could dance to her and give her an offering, in the basket.

That sounds cute, but could be tiresome for the audience. Unless all the students dance in at once & fill the basket. Or line up the dancers, each holding an item behind her back, and pass the basket down the line. The whole thing shouldn't take more than a minute or so, or you risk embarassing your teacher and dragging down the show after her carefully-planned finale!

My students have given me cash (sounds tacky but, coming from a tired and underpaid instructor, it is most appreciated), flowers, candles, picture frames and gift certificates to restaurants.
It is always nice to receive a gift from your students acknowledging your hard work. She will love whatever you chose!

Oh yes! That is a much better idea, have the teacher do the dancing with the basket! *giggles* That would be great!

hmmm. i've seen a framed photo being given. once it was of all of the students together with autographs around it, another time it was a stunning photo of the instructor.

What about dousing her with a big ol' bucket of gatorade?
Oh... wait... that's for the coach, not the teacher. Sorry!
The above ideas are lovely. I'm sorry I dont' have anything to contribute really... just in a silly mood today.,r:;

I write thank you notes to teachers I enjoyed (not just dance teachers, teachers of all kinds) about how much I appreciate their classes and what it meant to me. Believe it or not, it really means a lot to some people; allegedly, my 10th grade English teacher teared up because no one ever thanked her before.
If that's a little plain, maybe assemble it into an album with photos of yourselves?

Well! Recital is in 2 days. So that is what we are doing! We all contributed a few bucks for a gift certificate. Rumor has it that she would really like to treat herself to some Chanel makeup, so we are getting her a gift certificate for Kauffman who carries this brand. And we each made or got a little something with personal notes attached to it to contribute to a gift basket. She will be called on stage by our presenter who will be reading a speech that was written by the student who has been with her the longest, saying thank you and how wonderful she is. We will all dance to her and put our "offerings" in her basket (not one at a time but rather we will follow each other in a line so that it doesnt take too long). Gosh what did I get into! lol I hope all goes well, she deserves the best!
