How to Promote Campus Class? (accredited)
I will be teaching a class on my campus this semester. It's carrying a small amount of credit, and I am looking to promote it. My campus is huge, and I am sure there are people who wold enjoy the class. But I don't know how to reach them.
What strategies have other university members tried in doing this? It's so strange to try "marketing" to students. The class is only open to registered students.
So far, I have tried emailing the student groups which are either 1.) ethnic ties to regions of middle east or 2.) dance-related. The dance department here focuses entirely on postmodern, and I put out the word but most of the dance majors will not be interested in a course of this nature. So I am looking for people outside the dance department --- it's ok though, I love teaching mixed levels.
I will be posting flyers etc., but in the full knowledge that they will be removed on the same day. There are flyer mafias that charge money $100 to hang flyers all over the Bay, and they have scouts rip down anyone else's.
help?

Is there a student newspaper or a student web calendar where you can be listed? Those are both good ways to reach more on campus students.

Flyers inside the dorms? Inside the student union? Can you work with the student union to do a demo mini-performance and have a friend distribute flyers to the audience? Is there a campus-owned exercise facility where you could post a flyer?

On Facebook you can place a mini-ad and target it towards people at a particular school. There are pay-per-click or pay-per-view options, you can cut it off at a certain $ amount, etc. It might be worth it if this is something you want to repeat at that school.
