Thread: vendors at workshops

I will be hosting my first workshop in Feb, and I'm not sure how the whole vendor thing works. Do I charge them? If so how much approx.

I'm charging a small fee, to help pay for room rental. And I know others usually do, $20 - $50. Some do a variable like $50 or 10% of sales, whatever is lower.

Depends on your area as well. Going rate out here is about $50 per table, $25 per rack. Vendors provide racks, you provide tables.

I've been producing BD festivals and other BD events for 10 years now and vendors at virtually all events in this area are charged a fee. The fee itself, as others have posted, depends upon the venue. Most of the larger events look to pay their basic venue rent with their vendor fee income; all the other expenses, which can run from a dj to a rented stage to rented tables and chairs, advertising, the workshop instructor and everything in between are paid out of the money received from participants.

The more participants you expect, the more you can charge for your vendor fees, within reason, of course.

When pricing everything to do with hosting a workshop, you have to assume a low turn-out as far as revenue is concerned so you can price properly to meet your expenses, and overestimate expenses so you don't have too many surprises!

Do a flat fee per table, don't get into % of sales.
