Drum solo
I have been asked to teach a small class on drum solos. I have never taught on drum solos before. Do you have any advice or do's and dont's I should be aware of. Or things you specifically reccomend. I was going to go through isolations, pops, locks and then a short 1:30 chororeo. All advice is greatly appreciated
Thanks

Re: Drum solo
I would like a class that taught different combos to do to the typical drum solo rhythms.

Re: Drum solo
I hadnt thought of that, I do like combos better since that is the way I usually dance, but these are all still begginers and they dont improv at all, but maybe teaching the choreo as several different combos would be a great idea. THANKS!

Re: Drum solo
Dancers need to know the rhythms in a typical drum solo, so you could cover rhythms. I always like learning combos, I think that is a good idea.

Re: Drum solo
I think that combo's are the most valuable. I wish that I had started learning that way.

Re: Drum solo
I like advice on how to interpret drum solo music - like not having to hit every beat, that you can blend slow movements in with the fast, how to break down a single move so that it can be used with different tempo within the same series of beats in the solo without looking repetitive. Often there is so much focus on hard pops, locks, and bumps that we forget to use our full range of movement! Of course, there's always going to be some stuff that just doesn't work, but covering drum interpretations that the students may not initially think of would be very, very good.
