Thread: Quantico, Stafford, Fredricksburg VA again

Ok We are SOOOOOO close to finding out for sure if we are going to Quantico. It is so bad, I have alreayd picked out houses, things to do places to visit etc. Can you tell I am excited?..l;, I was hoping to Take privates from Artimis and hopefully one more teacher, Idealy it would be some one with a VERY STRONG Egyptian background, like Yasmine, but I KNOW she isnt taking privates any longer. I need the up or down on what ever beat thing explained and shown to me, still dont get it, also the baledi progression, and Raks asaya etc I think I need to focus on these as well as some other things. I have never ever had egyptian trainning so is there any one you recomend that would give privates, Weekly or bi weekly, I dont mind driving if It is worth the drive.

You can't get more Egyptian than Faten Salama. She teaches both oriental and folkloric styles and is currently offering an excellent class in dancing to live music. She doesn't have her own studio but teaches regular classes in Manassas and at Saffron Dance in the Clarendon section of Arlington, where I dance. Her classes are great -- highly recommended! You should be able to take private lessons with her at either location, though you might have to pay studio rental fees. I'm not sure which studio would be more convenient for you.

I'll put in a plug for my other current teacher, Saphira, as well. (Saffron Dance is her studio.) Her style is more modern Egyptian, with an emphasis on strong technique, musicality, and presentation. She has a great eye for making personalized corrections, and she's excellent at breaking down and explaining movement. Faten covers more of the folkloric topics than Saphira does -- her cane in particular is a standout -- but both are excellent teachers who can jump-start your Egyptian oriental. Their classes are serious workouts, too. ..g.:
