So you are backstage with your student. You have both been working on getting to this moment for 2 year and it has finally come. It is her first performance and she is extremely nervous not really sure if she is ready. What is your advice to her? What is the most important thing that she should expect to get out of this? What really makes this first performance a success?

"Take a couple of big slow breaths, honey."

"Now give me a smile." Usually results in a laugh.

"Now let's get out there and show these folks just how much fun we have doing this thing! And, remember, the audience wants to love you."

"The hard part is over! You've put in all the hard work of learning your routine, practicing, and rehearsing. All that's done. Now, all you have to do is go out there, dance, and enjoy every moment of it."
