Thread: Specialty Folkloric Classes!!!

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to share with you some of the topics I will be teaching in my Friday evening class!

Fridays 7:45-9:15 pm
Dance Garden
Atwater Village (near Glendale)

10/10/08 Shaabi-what does it mean? what music do you use? costuming?? persona?? WE will explore all aspects as well as learn some key movements and how to put it together with the music!!!

(Im not giving specific dates becasue sometimes a topic will take longer than I expect.w.:)

After Shaabi we will tackle the concept and MISconceptions of the Melaya Luff!

It actually isnt my ankly, its my foot. Its better-not 100% but I think Ill be ok to teach on Friday!!

If anyone wasnt able to make it last night and is still interested...

the Shaabi class went really well, we covered the basics and will continue to work on Shaabi-how to spiff it up for a stage performance and how to incorporate it into a BD rountine!!

So probably 2-3 more classes on Shaabi!!

Just danced to two Hakim songs tonight at a gig. It'll be great to know what I should have been doing to it!

Hi Roxanne! Thanks for teaching some specialty folkloric classes! In the tidal wave of enthusiasm for Egyptian style raqs sharqi (which I thoroughly understand, being enchanted by it myself), I think that dancers often do not learn the folkloric styles of Egypt. I hope your classes are well attended and that you will do more in the future!

i really, highly recommend taking her classes like in debkeh ,khaleegi,egyptian folkloric etc; or just ask her about it and she will!

she is very informative,along with cultural understanding,and experience and you will walk outside of class saying (oooh... now i get it!)..... debkeh (she teach all styles:Lebanese,Palestinian,Syrian etc;),as well in khaleegi

because we don't get enough and see enough traditional ME folkloric as this is also IMPORTANT and along on the of raqs al sharqi(egyptian and lebanese style)/egyptian beledi and she does teach those forms as well.
she has classes on tuesday nights at DG in Los Angeles.

What happended here? Did you mean to write 01/10/09 or did the thread pop up and become alive again because Roxxie will be teaching the speciality classes again? Am I totally lost?
I always look for Roxxanne on Bhuz, she has some great things going on.

No these are old classes.

I will be doing something like this again after Im done with my Master's in April!!
