    Rhode Island Bellydancers?

Hi all! I'm heading up to Providence, RI on Sunday for a work conference and hoping to squeeze in a bit of bellydance in the evenings. Can anyone give me any recommendations on restaurants to visit, classes to take, must-see bellydance stuff in RI? I realize, I may be dreaming on that last one but who knows...maybe there's a really cool store up there I'd be sorry to miss!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You should check out Anatolia Imports, it is a nice store in Warwick RI which is pretty close to Providence (well, anything in RI is pretty close to Providence LOL). You have to call them ahead of time to make sure someone will be there when you stop by. I feel weird posting someones phone number online so PM me if you want it. Have fun in Providence!

Oh, and I highly recommend the Garden Grille restaurant in Pawtucket (also close by), its my absolute favorite restaurant.

Just saw this, cause I was offline while I was at Beach Blanket Beledi - so I'm not sure if you meant Sunday the 12th, or Sunday the 19th - but I'll be up in RI this weekend and teaching a workshop on Nouveau Noir Dance on Sunday in Arlington, MA (it's a short drive from RI) as part of Raks Spooki: Raks Spooki III: A Gothic Belly Dance Event

You can also check out the Middle Eastern Dance In New England website for lists of teachers and events: Middle-Eastern Dance in New England - Home

also to add: Restaurant-wise, I believe La Camelia is still operating in East Providence and has dancers on the weekends? It's a little tiny family restaurant with GREAT Middle Eastern food - not much to look at, but a great feel and taste!

No worries, I'm sure I'll end up in FL teaching somewhere soon ;)

But I forget to mention, if you're there at least through Wednesday my friend Aradia teaches Tribal Fusion drop-in classes in Providence on Thayer Street at The Spot from 6-7pm (an upstairs studio, next to a falafel place) - Zingari East Fusion Dance

Call Debbie at Anatolia Imports for classes and shows. Not only is she one of the best teachers in the area, she also does most of the booking so she can tell you what's going on. And of course you HAVE TO visit the shop!!

Run, run, run to La Camelia!!! The food is fantastic, and the band is AMAZING. And the owners are the nicest people - they hire dancers because THEY love dance, not just to draw business with a pretty girl in a costume. I danced there a while back (driving an hour and a half from Boston), and just loved it. (Shameless plug for [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OayPoDsHLSg"]my youtube video[/ame] from the show.)

I think they're on an every-other week schedule (or maybe once a month), so call in advance to make sure the show is on. (And if it is, you'll need reservations - it's tiny and popular.)

Oh, and if you're looking for non-BD stuff to do, Red Stripe and Citron are great restaurants too! And if you don't mind driving an extra 30 minutes and shelling out for a pricey dinner, go to Persimmon in Bristol (just off route 114), and tell her the crazy soup girl sent you. Totally worth it. Totally, totally worth it.
