Flutters on Youtube
Hello all!
Does anyone know any clips on Youtube with someone doing flutters? I have finally started to get the hang of it but I would like to see some examples of how it SHOULD look (other than my two dvds that instruct them, which is not in a performance setting) and also get some encouragement to my practising  None of my teachers do them so I can`t ask them either...

I am still a very beginner, I am assuming flutters are rapid movements of the tummy? Watch Sadie!

What's good about the two clips posted is that they illustrate two different ways of doing the flutter, with two different looks. Sadie does the super isolated diaphragm flutter, whereas Princess Farhana does more of a full abdominal one (this is the one I can do, but not as well as her).
Can I just say I love the commenter on PF's clip who refered to her as "Farhotness". LOL, that is *so* apt!

Here is a clip of a wonderful Turkish dancer named Sivga. Kahire posted it on the Didem thread. This performance alone has made me actually pay attention to Turkish dance, prior to seeing her performance I couldn't stand what I THOUGHT was Turkish style.
Anyway, she does beautiful flutters a couple of times during her performance. She makes them look absolutely effortless.

Thank you so much everyone for posting these clips! It was especially great that all the flutters looked really different, Sivga`s were so big and slow compared to the others! I`d LOVE to learn how to do those! Laura (or anyone else), how do you do the abdominal flutter? With the muscles, or the breath, or...? What I`m practising is the diaphgram one, I thought that was the only way to do it...:Aembarassed:

I went to 2 workshops with Princess F, which is why I knew she did them. She was talking about starting out by panting to get the flutter.

Fahana teaches it using the breath (panting) and circular breathing (she can just 'turn off' the panting noise and keep the belly going indefinitely). Zahra Zuhair teaches the vaccuum method (i.e. exhale ALL the air out and without inhaling, suck in your gut ALL the way and push out-out-out) which IMO is easier to do but harder to maintain since you can't breathe!

I can do the Sivga style flutters, but struggle with the higher ones. I didn't realise these counted as flutters so now I'm happy!
Unfortunately I don't like the look of them at all, I think it makes my belly look like a deflating balloon, all rubbery and weird!

I'm not sure I can explain very well but I'll try!
I completely relax my abdominal muscles, then hold my breath, (but without taking any extra air in first, so lungs are empty-ish)
Then I expand and release my ribs as I would if I was breathing, but without taking in any extra air, all the time keeping abs completely relaxed.
This action moves the diaphragm up, then when you release it sends a ripple down though your belly.
If you do it fast (a bit like panting) it looks like a flutter.
I'm lucky enough to have naturally good control over my abdominals, I think it's genetic as others in my family do too. Even my two year old son can do perfect bellyrolls!
