Thread: Double veil instructional video

Hello to everybody! I have been reading this forum for some time and I find it a great sourse of information with very friendly atmosphere.
I have just received a pair of very beautiful veils from Akai (thank you, Jes!) and would like to learn better double veil technic.
Can anybody recommend good instructional DVDs (basic level as well as advanced) that can be purchased through internet?

The ones I'd suggest are "Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Veil" by Aneena, or the double veil video by Alyne.

Caveat: I haven't actually seen either of these videos. I base my recommendation on the fact that I have taken in-person workshops taught by both of these dancers, and I know from attending their workshops that both explain things well.

(Now putting on my asbestos underwear to avoid being flamed for giving an opinion on videos I haven't actually seen.)

I HAVE seen Petite Jamila's Secrets of the Double Veil, and I would not recommend that one.

I'll back you up Shira!

I share Shira's "educated guess" about Alyne's video as she was who taught me double veil so I'd expect a video by her to be good. I can't comment on Aneena's video as I've never taken from her.

In other news I'm going to be TEACHING double veil in a couple of weeks - should be an interesting experience - GULP!

I have Alyne's Double Veil DVD and it's really very good. It looks like it was shot in a studio and does not offer professional-level video footage. HOWEVER, and more importantly - the content is fabulous. Her explanations and ideas are definitely worth the purchase.

Also, I took a double veil workshop with Saqra and understand that she has an instructional video on them as well. I haven't seen it, but I'm sure if you contacted her you could obtain details and order. The workshop I took with her leads me to believe that this would be a good DVD as well.

Ah, I didn't know Saqra had a double veil video out too. I haven't taken one of her workshops so I can't comment on her teaching skills, but I've seen her perform double veil and she's definitely an excellent performer with them!

Dear *Shira*, Zorba and Adishakti, thank you very much for the expert advice! I think I will try videos by Alyne and Saqra.

Unfortunately here in Russia dancers rarely use double veil and I could not find anybody who teaches it (maybe because the major style in Russia is Egyptian). But I hope the videos will help!

I think I have or had all of the double veil videos, and I like Aneena's the best. However, the production quality is not as good as Joynan's (which I also like), but it has a lot more packed into it. She's also very sweet and you can email her if you have questions.

I was shocked at how short Petite Jamila's dvd is. I was very dissipointed at first, however, I got it used dirt cheap and I'm glad I have it. She's such a beautiful dancer with the veils. I'm really looking forward to her workshop here in Atlanta next month.

I don't think Saqra has a double veil video, but I"m going to run ask her just in case. I really like her videos. It's that no frills qualilty, like Veda's, and she's an excellent teacher.
