One Leg Shimmy
Hi,
A while back someone needed help with shimmies, and it was suggested they do One leg shimmy/drill...
Are there any examples of this on youtube?
Is this what Jillina is doing, coming out of a hip circle (looked nice!)?
Thank you for your time!
:-)

Re: One Leg Shimmy
weight on one leg other leg out to side just touching. not really a dance move as far as I know but you can rise out of a plie or perhaps hip circle with one leg behind and shimmy on front leg. that looks nice

Re: One Leg Shimmy
I do those a lot, ask my students :-)
We had a drumsolo workshop with Sonia & Issam over here yesterday - she did it coming out of a huge bouncy hip circle, it was pretty! Might be similar to the one you describe as Jillina's.
Hip accent to the left, weight is on left leg. From there, giant hip circle to the back and to the right, your weight is now on your right leg, lift upper body and shimmy with right leg only.
For me, I feel it helps to keep the shimmy nice and loose. Freeze shimmies don't quite work for this in my case.

I drill my students in these too! I have them switch between the "standing" and "free" leg as well since both give a different look.

Re: One Leg Shimmy
Do you know if there is anything on youtube that shows the difference?
Queenie, yep that's what it looks like Jillina is doing (without the bounce).
Bummer they don't keep the camera on her, and you don't see her whole leg, so I could see it completely.
Do you know if this move will hurt the lower back?
Thank you all for your responses! :-)

You could also think of it as doing it with the "weighted" leg versus the "unweighted" leg. If you have one foot in front of the other, shift your weight to the back foot. Shimmy with the back leg. Now, without shifting your weight, shimmy with the front leg (no weight on it). That's the difference.
