Thread: zills dvd

Could anyone recommend a basic dvd for learning to use finger cymbals?

Ansuya's finger cymbals dvd(s) is a really good start... I highly recommend. You can get them from ebay somewhat cheap.

Z-Helene has a wonderful dvd on finger cymbals and I'm very very fond of Michelle Joyce's new dvd: Killer Ziller. World Dance NY also has a nice one. Saqra has a nice one too!

I second Killer Ziller by MJ. I also have the Jamilla Salimpour Finger Cymbal CD that I love to use. I love it that I can put that one in my ipod and go with it.

michelle joyce's is kickass!!!!

I have the World Dance NY one and like it a lot...it shows the combos up on the screen and then gives you a good breakdown of basic rhythms & then building up to more difficult levels of movement to go along with them

I know you're ordering Michelle's (I want that one too!!!) but in case you ever want another one, I'll just say that I learned quite a bit from Mesmera's. I really liked that she demonstrates several different sounds that can be produced with the cymbals. It's also great for learning rythms and variations on rhytms. She doesn't do alot of instruction on dancing while zilling, though she has two performances on there that can give you ideas.

i like mesmeras too

MJ's works better for my specific type of learning style and i have actually used her dvd almost every day..i've had mesmera's for 2 years and have watched it maybe 4 times.

Regarding Dolphina's, I'd say that one is useful only for entertaining people at video parties.

Horatio has an instructional zill out too. Got mine when only vhs was available. I like it, am going to pull it out again. But, I love all of Oriental Fantasy stuff!!
