Fan Veils...Is it possible to switch the direction of the staves?
Hi,
I recently bought a set of fan veils.
They both seem to be for the right hand.
Can the staves be re-stacked, in the opposite direction?
Anyone ever do this? Is there special hardware I can get?
Help!
My hands are small, the fan veils or gorgeous...and I really want to learn to use fan veils.
ANY advice would be most apreciated! :-)

Re: Fan Veils...Is it possible to switch the direction of the staves?
yes! Though it is up to you whether you want to switch them or not. I keep mine all right-hand keyed so I always know how to react when I pick them up.
To switch the direction, take the pin out at the bottom, re-stack the staves, and re-insert the pin.
Have fun and good luck!

Re: Fan Veils...Is it possible to switch the direction of the staves?
Sure :) If both are keyed for the right hand:
To open:
Right hand - as you are holding it closed and out your thumb will be on the front of the first of the staves and to open you can drop the other staves from behind.
Left hand - as you are holding it closed and out your thumb will be on the front/top of the *last* of the staves (at the back) and to open you drop all of the staves in front.
To hold open:
Right hand - Right thumb across top in front of first of the staves, all other fingers fan-curled around behind (making a small space/pocket in your hand behind the fan so that the wood doesn't dig into your hands if possible)
Left hand - Left thumb across the top in front of the last of the staves, all other fingers fan-curled around behind (making a small space/pocket in your hand behind the fan so that the wood doesn't dig into your hands if possible)
On the replacement pins - I haven't found any good replacement pins, but you can usually find small nuts/bolts at the hardware store or can use the pin you removed (uncurl it with your tools, remove it and then when ready replace it and re-curl it)
I hope this helps! If you have any questions, feel free to just ask :)Last edited by mahsati; 11-16-2008 at 04:32 PM.

Thank you!
I will try the left hand technique you suggested, before altering the fan.
Thanks so much!
