where one's head is upside down....
hello everyone!
when doing bend back, when dipping so low that head is upside down, face is also upside down, all my cheek flesh falls down, face becomes distorted, eyes distorted. look like giant alien. i tried sucking in cheeks hoping then they can't fall down, but they still do, and look like deformed alien.
what to do?
i saw many dancers in youtube with upside down head but their faces still beautiful not distorted. what is big secret? is it genetic?
thank you in advance for telling secret!

I can't tell you, my backbends are recommended only in places with low lighting...because they trigger my forehead vein.
(please, Bhuzers, know this is me trusting you)

Fellow upside down alien head with forehead vein victim checking in.
I love backbends but I don't do them often because of obvious reasons.

Re: where one's head is upside down....
Ozma, maybe a Turkish/Egyptian head wrap at the hair line would help hide that vein - yeah, I too would not have noticed it if you hadn't pointed it out.
I can't do back bends because I get huge head rushes from it. I'm almost certain that if I did a back bend for any length of time (talking 10+ seconds) I would black out and fall to the floor, but I could probably play it off and pretend it was a modified Turkish drop.
Wingaki, if I were you, I would do the back bend as a quick accent (example: bend backwards and then come up quickly) or try doing it off to the side and extend/slide one pointed foot out which would be quite pretty as you would be elongating your body and it would look like a classical pose. Doing the back bend to the side you could have your arms out by your ears so your face would not look as bad as you think it does.
Hope that helps any.

If something doesn't look good on you and you feel uncomfortable about it, don't do it. Find something else that carries the same emotional or physical value and substitute that in stead. Like do a backbend to the side so that your features are not center focus.

Re: where one's head is upside down....
When I see backbends in performance I never look at the face, I look at what that spine is doing because I know I will never be able to attain that kind of flexibility. Or get it back if I ever had it, or whatever. That Mardi Love ad that flashes on the ad page, where she's bent almost into a U shape (upside down of course), WOW!
If I got that kind of flexible, I can just see myself getting dizzy and blacking out....

If you are uncomfortable with the way your face looks, try doing your backbend with a side profile to your audience.
Also, a closed lip smile will help lift things a bit.

Re: where one's head is upside down....
some tips:
look down your nose when you're in a backbend - never at the audience. otherwise you get scary forehead wrinkles and freaky bug-eyed-ness.
you can also do your back bends in profile, with your side to the audience. then they can see the full curve of your back, and not what your forehead is doing.
