NY/NJ/CT Dancers - Aradia is coming! What do you want to learn?
I am working bringing Aradia over in June (weekend of June 36-28)) for two days of workshops in Manhattan (or one day, not sure yet). I have to pick the workshop topics and I thought I'd like to get some feedback.
What would you be interested in learning? There will be 4 two-hour workshops if we do two days, or 2 two-hour workshops if it's only one day (I need to go over the details). Here are the options (I have descriptions of each of these classes, so if you want to know what a class would include, ask me):
“Combinations for Egyptian, Lebanese and Turkish Oriental Dance”
“Drum Solo”
“Taqsim”:
“Veil/Double Veil”
“Romany Gypsy”
“Classical Persian”
“Saidi/Assaya”
“Oriental Combinations”
”Turkish Oriental Combinations”
“Slow Combinations”
“Traveling steps, entrances and exits”
“Hagallah”
“Lecture- Professional Dancer”
I know which classes I would be interested, but since I'm going to need more than just myself to fill the classes, I'd like to know what other dancers would be interested in too. Even if you aren't in the area, feel free to add your thoughts on what classes would appeal to the widest audience.
Thanks!Last edited by danielabellydance; 12-14-2008 at 09:41 PM.

I would be interested in the combos for Egyptian, Lebanese and Turkish IF they're different from the ones ont he dvd (they're great, but there's no point in paying for something I already have). What's different between that and Oriental Combinations? What's the description for slow combos?

Wow! I hope I can come down to NYC for this! I love Aradia.
her drum solo workshop is definitely worth it - she has some great ideas for that. I took a 1.5 hour version of it at the Las Vegas Bellydance weekend.

I'm not sure about the answer to your question re: the combos in the videos (I can find out if that ends up being one of the topics), but here are the descriptions:
“Combinations for Egyptian, Lebanese and Turkish Oriental Dance”: Aradia will introduce the similarities and differences of these 3 dance styles. Learn exciting combinations for each genre that can be applied to any Oriental show.
“Oriental Combinations”: Aradia offers combinations in Egyptian, Lebanese or Turkish Oriental dance. Combinations can be applied to classic music or pop, with unusual variations in levels, transitions and energy.
“Slow Combinations”: Aradia combines passionate slow moves with unique transitions and combinations, that will come in handy with any taqsim or classic piece of music. Learn the art of fluidity and grace.

I wish she could teach all of them!!!
It looks like Drum solo will be a definite. And one of the Combos - I'm leaning towards the Combos for Egyptian, Lebanese and Turkish...
Any more input?

Re: NY/NJ/CT Dancers - Aradia is coming! What do you want to learn?
Athallia,
the combo's for Egyptian Lebanese/Turkish will be similar to the DVD, but to different music, and in different arrangements, the only one that is similar to the DVD I would say is the Turkish portion. I know there will be three other topics as well, so I'm looking forward to seeing what topics you all choose!! Drum solo and shimmy drills is always fun, I usually recommend at least one folkloric topic, just because it's the root of all Oriental dancer, so it's important to know and and you can find some different executions of steps to add to your Oriental repertoire...g.:

All of Aradia's workshops have been well-received at the Intensive. Her Drum Solo class kicked some pretty serious butt. Everyone always loves that one!!

Since my company is forcing us to take "time off" liberally this year and my best friend just moved to nyc and might put me up, I'm going to contribute a vote.
“Classical Persian”
“Saidi/Assaya”
“Oriental Combinations”
“Traveling steps, entrances and exits”

Re: NY/NJ/CT Dancers - Aradia is coming! What do you want to learn?
Ok, so we are definitely going to do Drum solo, Saidi, and Oriental Combos....
Just one more - Traveling steps, entrances and exits? Or one more Folk-y one? Or veil? Or Taqsim? Aack, it's so hard to choose!
Aradia, can you just move in with me for a few weeks and teach them all to me!?!
