Modern Cairo Style in Sydney, Australia

    Hi all,

I'm new to the Sydney area, and looking for a top notch Modern Cairo Style teacher. This is the style of dance I had been training in before I arrived here, so I'm really looking for someone who focuses exclusively on the same thing. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Also, anyone know if there's anything happening workshop or hafla wise in Sydney soon?

    Thanks!

I would check out Amera Eid in Newtown as your first port of call. Amera is not necessarily up-to-the-second modern Cairo but she is definitely a modern Egyptian-style dancer, with a lot of folkloric influence (she puts a ton of khaleegy in her dance) and she really knows her stuff. She was the person who brought Randa Kamel to Sydney recently. Amera can definitely point you in the right direction if what she offers is not exactly what you're looking for. As she is a vendor as well, she's in the know with everybody.

    Thank you Zumarrad ..g.:

I had heard of Amera (actually tried to contact her but her mailbox is full lol) but I didn't know an awful lot about her. Thank you so much for the recommendation, I will certainly contact her now. I also see on her website that there are some fantastic workshops coming up in February, starting to feel my soul come alive again!

So when you say Modern Cairo, you mean like Dina style or Jillina style? What do you classify as Modern Cairo?

As you may know, Yasmina and Amera are close friends. Amera worked for 10 years in the Middle East. So if you like Yasmina's style you will probably like Amera's style.

Now Dina and Randa's style.... Well let's just say I'm not the best person to ask as I ain't a fan of either style. My taste are more old school like Fifi Abdo, Mona Said, Nadia Gamal.

I knew that Amera had worked in the Middle East, but I didn't know she was close friends with Yasmina - if their dance tastes and style are similar you've just sealed the deal for me ..g.: Don't misunderstand, I loooove the old school style too, especially Fifi and Mona Said, its just that I want to develop in the Modern Cairo direction at the moment.

Pm'ing you with a question on another matter ..g.:
