Thread: A succinct, clear and BRIEF explanation of Dina and Fifi

I know who they are. I know what they have done for the dance, why they are major names etc.

But I waffle. And over-talk. And could probably spend an hour and still leave people bemused.

Can anyone help me with a few short key points to mention on each of these famous dancers when introducing my novice classes [ie, people who don't want an indepth drowning just yet] to them? Someone not prone to auto-wittering like me!

Like an X did Y and thus Z thing? I would dearly appreciate the help!

Here goes...

Fifi:
-classic Egyptian style (from the era of the late 70s and 80s, especially)
-bigger, looser hip movements and not a lot of traveling (compared to modern Egyptian style)
-her personal style is very beledi...earthy, flirty, cheeky

-pioneer of "modern Egyptian" raqs sharqi (i.e. 1990s and beyond)
-tiny, very controlled/contained hip/pelvic movements
-influence of theatrical folklore styling (Reda troupe)
