Can someone recommend a good instructional dvd for beginning veil?
I've been taking classes for awhile now and our instructor hasn't gotten into in depth veil choreography yet. I received a lovely silk veil from my secret Habibi this year and I'd like to learn to move with it.
Any suggestions? Nothing too difficult, I'm still a spaz with it...l;,..l;,

Shoshanna's 4 yard veil dvd is great, and you don't have to have a 4 yarder to do it.... she goes over alot of basic moves and some combos. And a great price too! I haven't seen Aziza's but I am sure it is fabulous. There is also Sarah Skinner's dvd.

Katia has a video specifically on dancing with silk veils, I can't remember offhand what is on it though. It's an IAMED DVD Belly Dancing, Belly Dance Videos, DVDs, Bellydance

I love Sarah Skinners veil DVD. I had already done a good bit of veilwork in classes, but this seemed to cover more than that and is great to practice with!

Re: Can someone recommend a good instructional dvd for beginning veil?
Ooh thanks . I read a reveiw by steffib here on bhuz and she liked it only that Sarah doesn't actually do a lot of dancing with the veil, but more shows veil "moves." Here is link to her post http://www.bhuz.com/forum/product-ne...-veil-dvd.html
Is the dvd called "belly dance with veil" or "seven veils romantic bellydancing" Sarah Skinner has 2 veil dvd's.Last edited by Bahtya; 01-28-2009 at 05:22 PM.

The DVD that I purchased is called "belly dance with veil". I had a quick look at the link that you posted and the review is relatively accurate in my opinion. Sarah's instruction is mainly based on veil technique. I just loved how Sarah was able to give loads of examples on how you can manipulate your veil beautifully. I really got a lot of it.

I think that Aziza's veil dvd is clearcut and easy to work with. I also like Saqra veil reference dvd. Not the same polished production values as Aziza's but in true Saqra fashion, chock full of gems.

Aziza's DVD is perfect for beginners on up; she covers everything from choice of material, caring for your veil, how to dance using the veil rather than simply doing veil tricks, technique, combinations. She explains and demonstrates it all in a manner that is very easy to understand, and finishes with a beautiful performance. It's not the only veil DVD out there, but I think that it covers most everything.

Another vote for the Aziza DVD. It's great and hits all the basics.

Gah! Aziza or Sarah Skinner?
Does anyone have both? I have Aziza's practice companion and like that, is her veil dvd a similar format?
I hate decisions like these...

Re: Can someone recommend a good instructional dvd for beginning veil?
I do.
Both videos have their merits but in terms of "bang for your buck" I would go with Sarah's--- she has a lot more material so you can grow with it. She also covers veil wraps and veil problems. I see Aziza's as a beginner video. I had been doing veil a long time, so there was maybe two moves that I hadn't seen, but once I got those two moves (which was pretty quickly), I haven't had a need to watch again.

Sarah Skinner - and you don't have to pay a fortune for it either. You can order it off of the World Dance website. Her video helped me a lot.
