Thread: Anyone study or take a workshop with Yasmine?

Has anyone taken a class or workshop with Yasmine (from BDSS and Charlotte, NC, I believe)? Me and my crew are thinking about going to Richmond this weekend to take her workshop, but we've never actually studied with her (or have any experience with her). It's a good drive, that's why we're adament about knowing more. Your experience and feedback are greatly appreciated!

She's a wonderful performer. Took classes with one of her teachers (Naina)--Yasmine checked the classes periodically (quality control I guess).

Dude, you're from Manassas? Maybe 2 hours. Come on down - you can't beat $40 for a workshop, even a mini-one (and there's usually performance opportunities at the haflas. Plus a mini-Scheherezade Imports booth!).

I say this having never studied with Yasmine, but I have attended a few of the Women of Selket workshops and I always pick something of interest up!

I've taken a couple of workshops with her and always learned something useful. Her shimmy class rocks and her combinations are really cute.

I saw her dance at Rakkasah and she was awesome!

I have been taking classes with Yasmine in Charlotte for a couple of years. She is a wonderful instructor! Her strengths include shimmies and drum solos, among other things. Feel free to pm me if you have specific questions.

I took a shimmy workshop with her a couple of years ago, and it was great! She broke down a ton of shimmies I wasn't familiar with...and I thought a already knew a bunch! ..g.: She's very upbeat and fun. Definitely worth while.

Yasmiine is great. She came the Raleigh area last year for a benefit and taught a complete tribal choreo in the morning workshop and a complete drum solo in the afternoon one. She is super sweet and has very good techniques.

I'm glad you didn't yell, Yaalini! My friend and I didn't make it because a friend of hers came from out of town. And I didn't want to drive out there by myself. I heard it was fun and I'm so bummed I missed it!

I don't know - Right now my budget is more in the $40 range, ha ha!

(Though I do keep intending to make it to a Latifa workshop at some point...course nothing is happening in 2009!)

Nayna doesn't teach under Yasmine anymore - Nayna and Iona broke out on their own and formed Lotus Dance Studio and their own company Spirit of the Lotus a couple of years ago.
