good, gentle beginner teacher in San Diego area
Not sure I am posting this in the right place, sorry if not... I have a friend interested in taking classes for fitness and fun. She is not aspiring to perform (thats what we all said right!).
She is a little bit shy and is in the process of a huge weight loss. She has dropped 40 pounds already and still has a long way to go according to her. I told her that you don't need to lose weight before you start classes!
I told her I would look into finding her a fun, fuller figured body accepting, teacher in the SD area. Any suggestions?

Hi Samira!
I live in the San Diego area and I would recommend Nadirah (she is a member on Bhuz, too). Her studio is located in Imperial Beach (South Bay) and its called Bellydancing Divas. When I began my studies on the dance - I took Nadirah's class and loved it! Nadirah has a very pleasant personality and really knows how to work with newbies to the dance. We always had fun, learned short choreographies, technique, etc. Another great quality about Nadirah, is that she is extremely patient and that was key for me.
Unfortunately, I moved further away so its been difficult to try and get to her studio - but, I really enjoyed her class and I think your friend will too!

Forgot, to add. I believe Nadirah offers classes outside of her own studio, in other parts of San Diego as well....

Thank you to Andalee and Pooh bear
for recomending me that is very sweet . that means alot to me. i do teach out my home and I have flexable hours. I have women that are concerned about their weight or are shy so sometimes they want to attend class by themselves which is fine but i usually encourge then to attend class with the other ladys cause the ladies in my classes are really friendly come from all walks of life and are very supportive. I also have extreamly talented teachers David and Patrisha who are in San diego. for more info on them go to The Ethnic Dance Academy . I suggest for her to look on line at the sameda web site. it is a good idea to try many different teachers we all have different personalities and teaching styles.
www.bellydancingdivas.com is my web siteLast edited by Nadra; 02-03-2009 at 02:50 PM.

I recommend Meleah. In addition to her belly dance classes, she also has aerobic/pilates classes, twice a week, and they're only $4.00 per class. I know someone who lost 15lbs taking it.
