good teachers in San Diego area
Hi everyone:
I have a student who is moving to the San Diego area (Rancho Santa Fe). I have told her about the great dancers I know of and have seen from there -- Jim Boz, Fahtiem, DaVid, Sohaila, Angelika.
Any other recommendations? What about Dilek?

(Bear with me while I post my first reply on the new Bhuz.)
To answer your question, Fahtiem and Angelika are quite a trek from San Diego--- more LA/Orange County based.
Sohaila is a brilliant technician, has a good way of breaking down moves, and I believe now has a class through a community college (Palomar, which incidently has a very good dance program overall), which may provide excellent "bang for the buck". Egyptian Style.
I've only taken workshops with Jim, but love his style. His performing students are enjoyable to watch.
One my favorites is Lucia http:///www.luciadance.com I'm taking privates from her and well worth the money. I like that she is always trying to learn. She's Egyptian style. She's also the President of SAMEDA (think MECDA for the San Diego area http://www.sdsameda.com/)The website has more teacher names (and a killer worshop lineup for the SAMEDA Faire in July).
Know Dilek as a dancer... haven't taken from her or seen her students perform. So can't offer an opinion there. I think, since she is Turkish, that she tends more toward that styling, but don't quote me.

I know Dilek counts Suhaila as one of her insiprations from the two minute conversation we had after her performance when I was there...But id take from all of them if I could.... :)

Yeah, Dondi's based out of San Diego, but I haven't heard (that that everyone has to tell me everything) that she gives regular on-going classes. She has done workshops and probably you could take a private.

I second the vote for Lucia. She's a wonderful woman and a talented dancer/instructor. If you don't like her style, she can recommend you to other local teachers.

For Egyptain, take from DaVid, for Turkish, its me.
For Am Cab, me, Bhangra, David, Bollywood, David, Shaabi, David, Rak Sharqi, David, Khaleegi, David. Need I say more?> Most of the dancers mentioned above are his students or have taken from him as well.
San Diego has a developing and interesting dance scene.
I hope she finds it exciting!
