Re: Kalleji Thobes?
Yeah, this particular seller has a steady supply of thobes. But being about 5'7" means that 52 inches is much too short for me. I sent them an email via Ebay asking them to consider selling longer thobes. They replied saying that they will ask their supplier, so I bookmarked them in order to keep updated.
I will bump this thread if they stock something longer.
After I buy one or two... ..l;,

They are, I don't know if they ever sold on e-bay but you can order through their site.
THE DESERT BOUTIQUE - Islamic Clothing and MORE (Online Islamic Department Store)
Go to ladie's clothing, then traditional dresses, and scroll down. Their adult thobe is $31.99 now. By the way they're VERY long. I'm 5'9 and mine drags the floor. Several of my students had to shorten theirs. One of my shorter students tried the girls' version but it was too little.

Has anyone ever bought a thobe from Scheherezade Imports? Here's the link: Saudi Arabian Thobe Nashal.

Re: Kalleji Thobes?
I've seen some homemade thobes that worked really well. You can use a sequin-decorated veil for the front panel, or even use fabric glue and lots of glittery sequins and stones. I've always been tempted to try this (Kay gave me a diagram) but I have so many thobes I've never needed to make one.

Re: Kalleji Thobes?
I will put in a high recommendation for Kasmir's webpattern. If you are tall, like Zum :), I suggest to buy two of the same sari's and make the front and back from one and the rest from the other :)
I am 5'2" and one was enough for me. I was lucky to get a gorgeous yellow sari, have finished making my thobe a while ago and will have to get back to finishing the front panel..but here are some pics :)
almost finished thobe (needs hemming)

embroidery piece

the beginning of the decorations. I am using swarovski crystal buttons as highlights (the orange are orange on hologram gold sequins, the red are the crystal buttons) :) I left this one larger so you can see.

says she who sold a very long purple thobe to Latifa, lol

Re: Kalleji Thobes?
re: the embroidery and sequinning
It will eventually cover the entire front panel and over the shoulders, ala traditional style and I can say that unless you've got a lot of patience and time...
don't try this at home, lmao

Re: Kalleji Thobes?
wow that looks so beautiful! Great work....I know this is something I COULD do but, I've admitted to myself recently that I'd just don't care to take the time to do things like this, I'd rather just pay someone else to do it for me. I envy your patience and talent :)

Re: Kalleji Thobes?
thanks, and no you can't have it when it's finished, lmao

I had been searching for a yellow thobe forever and I've never seen pre-made ones in yellow, so I had no choice but to make my own :) The photos wash the colour out a bit, but it's more close to the bottom photo where you see the darkish yellow/gold.
One edge of the sari was embroidered as well, so I made sure to use that edge for the sleeves :) so I can do the sequinning (without the crystal buttons) on the edges of the sleeves as well.
I bought the sari on ebay. Seller is in India and is just fabulous to deal with.

Re: Kalleji Thobes?
I agree! What a beauty and I've never seen one in yellow. When you finish it, please post a of picture of you wearing it, I'd love to see how it looks!
OK, now I'm inspired! I bought material last summer with the intent to make one. I found some beautiful red sari fabric with gold embroidery to use for front and back and matching red chiffon. I have a green throbe I purchased from another dancer about 15 years ago but it has a lot of sentimental meaning and is getting a bit worn. And since I'm not dancing for a while due to a foot problem, I guess this is the time to make it. Samiya, if I run into trouble I'll be pm'ing you for help! ..l;,
