desperatley seeking tribal and folk teacher in merseyside
Hi Guys,
I am still searching for a tribal teacher. There is only so much of sharon kiharas drills i can do every day!! I was given a email addy of one and i did contact her but to no avail.
Can anyone help me??? I dont mind paying up to £15 or £20 for private tuition in Liverpool (crosby area). I can only really get to southport or liverpool city centre. Not really ormskirk and places as I dont have a car and the train is not direct.
Someone help I am really stuck! I want to improve

I'm afraid I don't know enough about your area to be able to suggest anyone. But what I would say is, if you can't find a tribal/folklore teacher within easy travelling distance, then doing a standard bellydance class will still help you improve.
There was a thread a few days ago about Bellydance Fundamentals. So you can work on those key skills in class, under the supervision of a teacher who can correct you and guide you. You can then use the dvds to supplement those classes and make your home practice more tribal.

Keep your eye on
Home
Few teachers here specialise in folkloric alone but include it as part of a general curriculum.
Apart from Gill,Nicky and I ( all of whom you know) no one teaches tribal in any guise in Merseyside or West Lancs.
If you can get to Manchester there is Michelle Pender and Nikki Franklin of the Urban Gypsies.
There are some brilliant DVDs about (FCBD,GC,Domba,Arabian Spices ec)and if you cannot make it to an outlying class nor to specialist workshops , these do help but are best used along with a belly dance class of course.
Look out for the Liverpool tribal workshops mentioned on the link. Sam Riggs of Domba is one of the teachers.
There is also Tribal Vibe,Gothla, Tribal London, JoY, Ford and Raks B to look forward to for tuition.

thanks Liz :) I did try nikki but no email back yet so maybe she is busy.
I know gill teaches in ormskirk only now which is a bit of a bug*er for me to get to sadly.
Do any local teachers do private tuition?

Not as far as I know they don't .
Most of them are on the website I gave you the link to and you could contact them from there.
Some teachers like Maureen and Carol teach most nights so wouldn't have the time and they aren't tribal.
I have students from Liverpool come to me in Ormskirk because they want to do trribal so we tribal teachers are thin on the ground in the NW. There is no one teaching it in Preston either as far as I know.
The nearest tribal girls I know are Rossendale!

Im pretty much screwed then until I get a car! Ormskirk would mean two trains which although I know some people might think 'well if your that desperate' but my better half is not a fan of me going on trains after dark alone and its not fair for me to bug him for lifts.
DVDs and sharon kiharas workshop at Raqs it is then!

Whilst I don't think theres anything wrong with Sharon Kihara's dvd, I don't personally find it that inspiring. I've got pretty much all of the tribal dvd's. If tribal fusion is your thing and you need a change, I would highly recommend Asharah's. It's only £6 or so on Amazon. There's so much good quality content for so little money you'd be crazy not to.

(in my opinion-not affiliated with Asharah in any way btw!)

Re: desperatley seeking tribal and folk teacher in merseyside
You could also find a teacher in your area who teaches basic jazz and ballet. These 2 types of dance movement are extremely helpful especially in the tribal styles. These clases will improve your body line, posture, and balance and will help you develop your muscles and discipline. Jazz classes will help you nail footwork now so commonly seen among belly dancers.
Also, ballet and jazz teachers are more common than belly dance teachers and usually have far less drama in their classes.

Good idea. I mainly learn egyptian style from my teachers, but I like to practise (some) tribal, I have found it improves my technique and strength, and is good fun too.

Hi Tribal Butterfly,!
Just noticed your thread, did you find anyone to instruct you in Tribal? I am one of the Tribal dance teachers from Rossendale my dance style is ATS Gypsy Caravan. Is there just you or are there a few of you? If there were a group I was thinking I could maybe come over a do a workshop for you. Otherwise it would workout expensive.
warm regards
