    Wink Ansuya and Tribal DVDS

Please help me pick a good tribal dvd. I have been working on my tribal technique but I am really struggling with the pop and locks. There are so many dvds out there that I do just not know which one to buy.
I have been working on learning new combos too, I just recently bought hot combinations with Ansuya and really liked it, I was thinking of buying her other dvds but I was afraid that they might overlap, do they?
    Please help me.

I think Asharah has a DVD out. She's a good one to learn from if you're into pops and locks.

Please do not take this as an accusation- this might be something you are already well aware of- but pops and locks are not a fundamental part of Tribal bellydance technique. They're a fusiony twist. I'm not saying they shouldn't be used- far from it.

Here's what Asharah has to say about it.
Bellydance Paladin: The Trouble with Tribal (Fusion)

    a quote from her article:
"These are breakdance/hip hop movements that many tribal fusion dancers have integrated into their performances. These robotic and staccato movements are not essentially tribal, nor are they essentially belly dance. I have seen many cabaret and oriental dancers integrate these movements into their performances, and yet they still remain essentially cabaret because they lacked the other above mentioned characteristics. Popping, locking, ticking, and strobing are part of the "fusion" of "tribal fusion bellydance." I'm surprised at how many people I encounter who believe that these are essential to tribal style bellydance."

Sorry to butt in. Good luck with your studies!

I second Asharah's Modern Tribal Bellydance dvd. In my opinion it is the best (currently available) tribal fusion dvd, and I have almost all of them. There is a huge amount of content -workout, technique, drills, and combinations, and it is very reasonably priced.
If you want to improve your pops and locks this dvd will definitely help.

If you want a really good tribal DVD, buy one of Ariellah's - she is the best tribal dancer I have ever seen (outside of Rachel Brice) and even makes me want to learn tribal!

Thank you, I actually have the ariella one and I liked it better than the rachel brice one that I own. I did not know the info about the locks. I had thought about buying the arm one that rachel brice has. Is it any good?

Hmm, it's okay, a bit better than the first one: yoga and isolations. There are some good exercises, but I didn't feel like it had all that much content.

A big chunk of the dvd is taken up by an interview of Rachel by Miles C. which I thought was a bit dull. There are so many interesting questions that he could have asked but mostly they just talked about her jewellery. I was a little bit disappointed by this one because Rachel has such beautiful arms and I hoped for more.

Thank you for the info about the arms and posture dvd, a friend of mine and I are trying to put together a list of dvds to buy. We both look at bhuz and ebay. We are trying to put together a small library but we don't want to end up with some dvds that might not be very good.

Asharah's DVD is fantastic for drilling isolations.
The music drives me nuts, but it is one of my favorite technique DVDs.

An oldie but goodie: Suzanna del Vecchio Pop, Lock and Flutter. Wonderful technique-del Vecchio is a master of isolation.
