Putting DVD footage on your computer. HELP!
OK I have footage on a DVD that is great footage. I would like to use it on my website, how the heck do I get it off and on the computer, it is in a file type I don't even think I've heard of (of course that doesn't say much).
Anyone else done this, I'm not sure I have the right software for this. If I can't any suggestions on where to take it to get it done, I do need it done soon.
Any help would be great!!!!

Re: Putting DVD footage on your computer. HELP!
You can use free software called DVD Shrink to rip from the DVD to a VOB file. Then change the extension on the file from .vob to .mpg, which will turn it into an MPEG file which can in turn be uploaded to your website or fancied up using Windows Movie Maker and then uploaded.
I also offer DVD to video clip conversions for dancers at a very reasonable rate. PM me if interested.

Re: Putting DVD footage on your computer. HELP!
another good program is called Hand Brake...it may be Mac only, but it's really easy to use to pull out separate chapters or take whole DVDs into about 20 different file types

If you have windows xp or vista you could use Windows movie maker. It allows you to import from DVD and you can cut out the part you want to use to save in a number of formats. It's not a fancy program and it's s l o w but does the trick

I second HandBrake. They do have a Windows version. I use it on my WinXP machine. I love it. It's so easy..

I third HandBrake. I'm running it on Vista, and it works very smoothly.

Re: Putting DVD footage on your computer. HELP!
You don't need to use DVD Shrink or Handbrake. A .vob file is just a .mpg file with a different extension. Just copy the .vob files from the dvd to your computer, rename them to .mpg and import them into your favorite video editor. I do this all the time.
