    How much

    is too much?.w.:

So I've been instructed to watch a lot of videos to find things I like to help me develop my style.

So I've been watching you tube a lot..

So I see a combination of moves that I like and would like to use in an upcoming performance to a different version of the same song....
Is it wrong to use it?

What if there are several combinations in the routine. How much is to much to use? If you change it here and there does it make it your own?

Okay, if it is simly a combination of moves, chances are that unless it's Fahteims Arabesque, many people will have used it of something simular. Now, if we are talking about using an entire 1 min passage, you might want to rethink it. Or retool it to the point that is can no longer be recognized.

I think the trick is to watch lots and lots of videos. You'll see moves and combos you like here and there from all different dancers, each with her own style. Then, as you start incorporating them all into your dance and adapting them to your body and personality, it will eventually gel into your own unique style.

i often come up with combinations to a whole section and then i see someone else do almost the same thing with the same music. i think sometimes those are just the moves that particular music says to do. it's amazing sometimes. i see it on youtube and i've seen it in totally different areas where there's no way that dancer could've seen me to have taken those combos. so i think it's ok.
