Thread: Has anyone taken the Tamlyn Dallal Teacher's certification courses?

Do you find it helpful? There is going to be one in NYC in June. I'm thinking about going. I know there has been a lot of talk about different certifications, so would this one be valuable to you?

I haven't, but I would in a heartbeat. Tamalyn is amazing.

Try Pm'ing i2dance (Layla). She is my instructor here in Delaware. I'm pretty sure she has done that course.

Do you have a website with more info on this course? I wasn't aware she was doing this and would like to know more about it. Thanks!

I haven't taken it yet (waiting until she offers it in Seattle again) but I love Tamalyn. My #1 favourite so I would take the course without a doubt.

That's cool. I won't be at the NYC workshops because Tamalyn will be here in Pittsburgh Pa on June 19-21st!! Yeah I can't wait to study with her!!! Will I get to meet any Bhuzers there???

I took a teacher training course with her and it was fantastic, although I really wish that it was significantly longer. It was more than teacher training, but also all sorts of information on running the business, promotions etc. When I took it, I was taking Bozenka’s advanced classes and was teaching in Naples, FL for about 2 years.

She went into depth on the pro’s and con’s of starting as a for profit or a non-profit (she’s unbelievably helpful regarding non-profits, because that is how she had set up the Mid-Eastern Dance Exchange in Miami and provides tips on grant writing, etc which she had successfully done to get shows such as Orientalia produced every year, for 14 years so far.)

How to pick a dance studio location, advice on installing floors and mirrors and which types and what the differences are.

How to generate PR, example press releases/press kits, how to buy advertising – what works, what doesn’t, what you have to mention when buying to really get your money’s worth etc.

And of course, Teaching! I desperately wished that I could start all over as a belly dancer and learn in her beginner classes. She showed us what a follow along dance for a beginner may look like and the use of which instills musicality and dance from the very beginning. Also, her book works great as a lesson plan (if you want to format your classes that way). I still look at it occasionally as a reference.

Also a breakdown on stretching and how to turn it into a dance so that the entire class is taught with musicality and you get the feeling that you’ve been dancing from start to finish (which I prefer over the classes where I feel like you warm up for 30 minutes, then get 10 minutes of lecture, and only 20 minutes of actual dancing).

BTW, I loved Tamalyn so much, that I'm hosting her in Raleigh NC for 6 days worth of events, including workshops, master classes, a show, a lecture and her film showing of 40 Days and 1001 Nights!

hoping to revive this thread, as an NYC certification course is being offered this May. I have some very specific questions about this

• Do you feel that this course improved you as a teacher?
• Did the certification help you get teaching jobs [at studios, etc]?
• Did the certification help you get more students?
• Is this beneficial for someone who is already established, or who has a marketing background?
