Thread: Hilal instructional videos?

So, I'm curious to know if any of the previous or the current Hilal followers ever have produce an instructional video. There are none listed on the Hilal website - but I know it has gone through various re-incarnations through the years.

Anyone?

I'm asking mostly from a dance technician and research perspective. I'm in intreagued by some of the concepts and would like to know more just to have more of a grasp on what the style/expression entails.

can't find any dvds but you may be interested in The Raqs Sharqi Society site. It was founded by Hilal and continues her influence as can be seen from costumes.

I nearly signed up for workshop but thought I wouldn't see enough detail from a reacher dressed like that!

Not as far as I know, although there did used to be (grammar?) performance videos/DVDs available.

There were 3 PAL format videos available of their shows -- "Jewels" is the only one I've seen.

Very interesting, aziyade!! I've searched for videos too over the years.

I spent a little bit of time in Sydney, Australia on a work project over 10 years ago (hard to believe). In my spare time, I tried different teachers in the Sydney area and hooked up with Sarah Hamilton. I noticed that she is on the calendar on the Hilal website. I thought she was (probably still is, lol) a lovely dancer who seemed to have a good understanding of balady progression. I still have some of the information that she gave me . . . it was the first time that I heard many of the terms (re: the balady progression topic) until I read Hossam Ramzy's article in Habibi (yeah those many years ago).

I did get to see the videos . . . actually have copies from PAL format that I haven't looked at in a long time. I think I need to go back thru my old stuff again, lol.
