Thread: Selling ad space in show programs?

Hey everyone! My troupe wants to sell ad space in the Tribal Rev show programs this year, but we have no clue what to charge for it! The show typically brings in around 200 audience members, although we are anticipating a jump in ticket sales this year. We want to market the ads to teachers, performers, vendors, event producers, and local businesses. Does anyone have experience with this? Can you share your ad rates for 1/2 page (8x5), 1/4 (4x5), and 1/8 page (business card size) ads?

I recently bought a business card size ad in a program for $25.

How much is each page costing you to print? Are you trying to make a profit on the program?

Not trying to make a profit on the program necessarily, but we can print a much nicer one with more advertising funds. I guess you can say we don't know how much the program will cost just yet. Dunno if we're doing color or b/w.. if we'll be able to include pictures of dancers or just mini-bios. Lots of variables.

Also, I apologize.. i thought i'd posted this in the business forum, but it ended up here.. sorry!

The way I calculated my ad fees was by getting an estimate from the printer on so many programs with x amount of pages. I break down the cost of each page. I then divide that cost by half page as well as quarter page so that you can sell options.

I hope I explained this clearly. I'm still a little sick and my brain is still resting.

business card: $25
Quarter page: $35
Half Page: $50
Whole page: $100
Center Page: $200
Full color front or back: $250

Wiggles of the West has workshops, but not really what you are talking about, because of the competition. But I thought it may give you some ideas.

Here are the ad rates for our magazine size program, Black & white only:
Regular Ads
Full Page, 7 1/2” wide x 9 1/2” high is $85.00
Half Page (horizontal only), 7 1/2” wide x 4 1/2” high is $65.00
Quarter Page, 3 1/2” wide x 4 1/2” high is $45.00
Business Card (horizontal only), 3” x 2” is $30.00

Premium Ads
Inside Front Cover, Full page only, 7 1/2" wide x 9 1/2" high is $95 SOLD
Inside Back Cover, Full page only, 7 1/2" wide x 9 1.2" high is $95

Teacher/Performer Listings
We are also offering an Instructor/Dancer Directory in the Program.
Our listings are as follows:
Basic - 3 lines (Name, Website, Contact number) $10
Premium - 3 lines (as above) plus 50 words text $25
Venders get a free basic listing.

Deadline for ads is July 1st.

Give yourself enough time after the deadline to put together the program and have it printed.

I think it is helpful to have a per square inch fee & list minimum & maximum sizes based on the size of your program- $5 per square inch puts a 2x3 business card ad at $30. It does help to have a sample page/rate card for various sizes. We charged $9 this last year & it covered all our printing costs, both for programs and for fliers & tickets for a 360 seating.
