Which Classic music Do You Like/Love?
What classic music do you really love to dance to?
What makes it good for you?
What classic songs are good for the audience? (both ME and W).
Just like to hear others opinions on the subject.....

Re: Which Classic music Do You Like/Love?
I always put Bitwannis Bik as one of my songs for almost any audience. I always request it when there is a live band also. The ME public loves it because they start to sing along and the GP enjoys it because altogether it is a great piece of music with many levels and variations. Plus it is a great song to build some audience rapport with because you can play with it in a number of ways. It can be flirtatious, sensual, cutesy, sexy, etc.
After that i would have to say that Laylet Hob is my second favorite piece to dance to. No matter how long i've been dancing to it, I still get excited when it comes on. But that's just me.

Alf Leyla has such wonderful changes and variations, it's definitely a favorite. Fakkarouni also brings me a lot of joy.

Lissa Fakr- I will never ever tire of hearing it. It's so emotional (I could feel that before I ever learned what the words were about), and it's got a real heartbeat.

Set El Hosen, it's just so epic (and tricky to dance to.)

I love Azziza because it's got a lot of changes and parts where you can alternate between fast and frisky and ooey-gooey.
If I'm in an AmCab/Vintage Orientale mood, I go for Tu Mavri Mava Sou or Miserlou.
If I want to do something more earthy, it's Taht Il Shibbak every time.

I love songs by Baligh Hamdi. My favourites are the one he wrote for Abdel Halim Hafez and Warda. I so love Akteb Aleik and Tab Wana Mali both written for Warda. He was such a fabulous songwriter.

Anything that came out of Abdel Halims mouth is just glorious to my ears. I LOVE Zay el Hawa and Gana el hawa.

Wow I think I have the same taste in music for some of these. I have to say leilet Hob is my all time favorite though. So many versions to choose from!

Egyptian Musicales:
Sit el hossan-the full 15 minute version
Ma'shaal
Oum Khoulsoum
Lissa Fakr
Enta Omri
Abdel Halim-just about anything but 2 top faves are:
Gana El howa
Neptidi M'neim El Hikaya
Then of course I absolutely love a beledi progression with drum solo with a live band.
Looks like we all have similar tastes.

- Alf Leyla wa Leyla (naturally!)
- Laylet Hob
Re: Which Classic music Do You Like/Love?
I wish I could find a version of Enta Omri that had more of the "lyrical" phrases in it, rather than just the instrumental bits. It's my only gripe - gorgeous song. My other Om Kalthoum favourites:
I love Al Atlal, too - but it feels a bit too intense to dance to. Perhaps it's just the version I have.
Madly in love with Abd el Halim Hafez - what a voice.
I adore Min Hobbi Fik Ya Ghari and never tire of hearing it - with a big tabl beledi and a biiiiig sound, like on the Leila of Cairo CD. Yum.
