    Insurance recommendations for teachers?

Just did a quick search but didn't find any up-to-date info... Can anyone recommend portable insurance for teaching, that will cover me wherever I teach? My policy is up for renewal, and I bet there's something better out there. I currently have Fitness and Wellness insurance through IDEA.

TIA for any info! Bhuzzers always have all the answers!

I use the International Dance Teachers Association. It's a "front group" for an insurance company that provides insurance. Very affordable at $199/yr and it is portable. It covers both liability and premises.

I have used Venbrook for nearly 4 years Venbrook Insurance Services - myfitnessinsurance.com - About Us

I started out paying $185 annually; last year they raised the rate to $210. Completely portable and covers me everywhere I teach.

You can also check with your current insurance brokers for homeowners, etc- I have a business liability & instructors policy that is portable- it looks a little more expensive, but with what it gives me in multiple policy discounts, it is actually less expensive in the long run (we have homeowners, 2 cars, life & business all at state farm)

Has anyone found a company that will give a discount if you get both teaching and performing coverage? Sadler offers both policies, but no discount.

I triple checked to make sure my business liability policy at state farm covers both. I am paying around $300 a year for my business policy, but it knocked almost $150 off my over all insurance bills when they applied the multi policy discount across the board.

    Re: Insurance recommendations for teachers?

I use Venbrook as well, very happy with them. They let me list the places I teach as 'additional insureds' for no extra charge. Some of the places I teach require that. They also cover my studio, up to 1,000 sq ft for no extra charge.

They USED to let me add on part time teachers for cheap, but not any more. If anyone knows of one that still does that, let me know, I'd switch for that! I've got people teaching 2 hours a week out of my studio, I don't see why they should have to buy full policies!

I used to use Fitnesspak, they gave me a discount for being ACE certified. I think they were about $180/year, give or take a bit, too. I liked them, switched only because I wanted the studio coverage Venbrook offered.

hmm - trying to decide between Venbrook and International Dance Teachers Association. Both look good but the International Dance Teachers Association offers up to 2mill a claim + has a lot of extras.

    Any thoughts?

Well, this line on the international Dance Teachers Association makes it an easy choice for me:
    # How many students can I teach with my policy?
You may teach up to nine students. For classes of ten students or more, there is an additional fee of $100.
So that policy is roughly 50% more expensive than the other, for me.
    YMMV.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm trying Venbrook, which is considerably cheaper than the Fitness and Wellness policy I had through IDEA.

I've got the same. Very happy with their service, and you actually get a nice person to answer your questions if you have to call.

I signed on with Venbrook, namely because of the student's you can teach clause. The customer service rep was great and they seemed to go into more detail about their policies than other places-what is up with all the place who just say "yeah, you're covered" but don't really list what they will/won't do?
